Steel: 1084/15n20, 450 layers, loose ladder pattern

Hardness: 60-ish

Blade length: 7"

Total length: 12.5"

Handle material: Ivory micarta

I was hoping the ivory micarta would make this look dressier, but now that it's finished, I think ironwood would have looked better. :(
What do you all think?

Oh, and this one is too be for sale AT Blade, so I'm not entertaining offers. Thank you. :)

That IS beautiful, but I think it would look incredible with Ironwood. Man, that IS one gorgeous knife!

I gotta echo Nick's comment here. I love it. Nothing more to say, except:thumbup:.

Thanks guys. I still think it needs something.... Another pin, I think would look good, but because of the placement of the tang, I couldn't do that. Some engraving would be nice, but that's a year or two in my future....

actually, a thin damascus spacer between the hilt and handle might look nice too.
I like it how it is though. :)

PP-- kill the Micarta!! beautiful knife but a mix between beautifull damascus and micarta could be so much improved with leaving out micarta from the ivory micarta and going with Ivory -- preferrably Mammoth. Heck, personally, I'd prefer honey Giraffe to Micarta lol. Very nice blade and the grinds are terrific.

Phillip, I agree that ironwood would set off that great blade. The ivory micarta doesn't do the blade justice.

Phillip, I agree that ironwood would have looked better. So would African blackwood. That is an exceptional blade.

I think you're right about the ironwood and/or maybe the extra pin- oh, well...

Guess you're just stuck with a BEAUTIFUL knife!

I think a damascus spacer and an ironwood handle would really look great. That being said I love the blade shape!

Trevor

ok it's settled then. Mr. Patton is just going to have to make another knife just like this but with a wooden handle.
Case closed:p
I actually quite like the ivory micarta on this piece and think it was a great choice. Extra pin? Whatever.

I personally like the combination. The simplicity of the guard and micarta really add to the blade pattern and complexity of the grind. At most,I would agree maybe engaved panels that follow the lines of the guard. A knife like that would be so easy to over-do.
Absolutely beautiful !!

I like it, but I do agree with the idea of a spacer between handle & guard.

From My own experience working with both ivory Micarta and iron wood I know that its hard to get good photos with the Micarta. I just gotta know that in person that knife is something special , and yes with the Micarta.

Great knife, but since you ask I've never been a fan of ivory micarta by itself. I would have gone for the ironwood!

I just wish it had giraffe bone scales and some really nice brass hardware :p

I think it's beautiful and the micarta probably looks and feels great in the hand :D

Just a gorgeous blade and terrific overall lines. As others have said, I would prefer something other than micarta for the handle.

Roger

That's quite a stunning piece, Phillip!

The ivory micarta would probably look better paired with a monosteel blade, but I've seen your ivory micarta/damascus in person (often) and it's a perfect fit in real life.
