Fighter Progression Thread With Lots Of Photos

It does not look like I got much done today because the process to get all the handle mechanism to fit correctly takes a while. I had to make the handle to be able to come apart all the way so I can etch the damascus fittings after the handle is shaped, and then put it all together and have everything fit nicely. Overall I am happy with the progress today.

Here I've hard soldered a 1/2" long nut that I made to the pommel, the size is 6 and 32 threads per inch.

Here is a bolt that I pinned to the tang that swivels. The pommel will screw onto it.

Here everything is put together how it goes and is ready to be shaped.

Here every thing is rough ground to shape. Thanks for looking.;)

Swivel tang is an idea I had thought about but hadn't seen! Good to see how it works....

Nice ironwood. I havent had a hunk I was crazy over since two blocks that were the best I've ever seen that I got two years back, but looked similar to your block before they were ground. (one is in my avatar, both on my homepage)

Here is the handle and fittings sanded to 1200 grit, the guard and pommel are now ready to be etched.

Here are some pictures of the knife before epoxying together. I will have to do a little touch up on the knife tomorrow and then it is finished. I will post some pictures of the finished knife tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

That's one fine fighter bowie Kyle.

And as complete a progressive thread as I have seen. We don't often see a progressive thread starting with the making of the damascus and going through final polish.

This fighter can be seen and handled at the Blade Show.

Knife clean, hands dirty - just like it should be.

Most excellent piece - thanks for giving us such a comprehensive look at its creation.

Very enjoyable progression thread, Kyle. And, a super end product! Congratulations to you and Kevin. Thanks for sharing.

Turned out really really nice, looks like another Missouri boy done good. Were going to have to get a "Missouri knifemakers get Together" one of these day. It'd be fun to meet all the MO boys that like to heat, beat and grind. ;)

Thats great! Congrats to you both. I will look forward to seeing it next week. Kyle, keep up the awesome work.
