Fighter with a Twist to it.

also fred, just for my own edification what are the specs on the knife, steel wise?

I purchased this W2, from Don Hanson, early this year. Bought a supply of,
1 1/4", round and square stock. W2, is a pleasure to work, under the 100lb. hammer and heat treats well. If you do the heat cycles, it is very predictable and produces lovely hamons, too boot!
I like to normalize this steel, four times, total. Once, after the blade is forged, then, three times in succession, after, annealing and grinding the blade. The series of three, normalizing cycles, is performed after a coat of PBC is applied, to prevent decarb.
After the last normalizing cycle, I let the blade cool; then apply the clay. I let the clay dry, 50% then put the blade in the sealed forge to heat. The entire blade is quenched when the blade reaches temperature.
The blade should be around 59 or 60 RC. I "roll" all the edges on the knives I make, using a brass rod. Its a great way to see what you've produced in an edge.

Hope this is somewhat enlightening, Fred
