I started this one a month ago, and have repeatedly thrown my back out over the course of that month. Today is the first day I've felt up to working in the shop, and this is as far as I managed to get. I might choose to continue the polish on the blade a bit beyond 600 grit, but so far I like it.

Please share your thoughts on this, and thanks!

Blade is 8.5" long, made of 1095 (I've experimenting on quench techniques without the aid of clay).

Matt,
That's a sweet blade. I'm lovin the hamon and shape of the blade ! I can't wait to see what you have in store for handle treatment . It was great chattin with you and look forward to doing it again sometime.

Pretty good for an old man, but when did you start making pocket knives? :D I think you ought to finish it out.

What are the spots at the front of the blade? Is it just cleaner/water spots or is it something showing in the steel? I can't tell by the pics.

Hey Cap, are you talking about the teeny little specks? If so, it's dust from the cloth I used to wipe it off with. If that's not what you're talking about, I'm not sure...

Age is the easy part, my friend... it's the hard use that makes it so damn tough!;)

The teeny ones are what I was referring to, yes. Scott Slobodian works his blades until bits of mill grain start to show through as "nie" of sorts and I thought you might have gotten some of this.

Polishing it out may make the Hamon pop a bit more no??

Thats a very nice effect you achieved with your quench technique, IN MY OPINION that knife needs some dark handle material to set the blade off even more.
Maybe even some dark stag would look right on it.
