These days I'm interested in Japanese knives (previous had a Nordic, French, American, Russian .... period ).
While surfing I came across these. (Tsuge - with T)
Hattori are awesome and use AUS 8 because it takes a great edge and a fine polish. Also the Japanese market are not as enamored with the latest greatest steels as we are in North America. The hattori has a leval of fit and finish not often seen in North American knives unless of course Hattori made them under contract which some big names do.
A fighter does not need high end steel anyway so i would say the Hattori is a far better value. however Al Mar knives are very collectible. I would bet money that the Al mar is made by Hattori anyway.
If you can find an ebony fighter in stock jump on it!

I have both, I Got them a few years ago, The Shiva made today is exactly the same as my older one. Mine is still mint and does have collector value. But if you just want a fighter for the sake of having a fighter on you, the Junglee Hattori is really nice for the cheap price and being made in taiwan. But the Hattori you have pictured and the Shiva are both great and it's personal preference. But for that price you can get into customs. And this is just my opinion, But when a Japanese Seki City Nice blade uses an AUS8 it seems to be a lot nicer then when an American company contracts it out to be made for them. They choose AUS because it polishes well and takes a Razors edge. And Knives Made in Seki are nice because the Japanese are a Steel culture. they take pride in their knives and Steel. And Like another poster said, they don't get all Hyped up about the CPM Steels. I think because they have been using their Own steels for Awesome knives and swords for centuries.
Don't know if that helps or even has any relevance, lol
