Fighters

Much appreciate all the replies.

I learnt some things.

Andy: Nah, just been a while since I updated my details. Was down south for a few years but I'm no Mexican.

FTR-14c: Every time I look at a HG-55 it makes me feel funny. Stunning.

elof_alv: I get the value of Swamp Rat and agree the Rucki is a great fighter. I already have one of those. Definitely chasing my first infi here.

To all those who suggested the TGLB, beautiful but not my idea of a fighter.
As for the dagger, local laws prevent.

Urban Grudge

Possibly one of the Soul variants released from last year's Blade.

These are new to me and totally speaking my language.

The other is that TB Persian variant that I love. :)

Fighters huh?
There's always these... (Jack Hammers)

:D

Wow.

The short list is now HG-55, Urban Grudge, ST-56, Jackhammer and Soul variants.
I like the Desert Storm Fighter too but the thing I like about the short list is I could deploy with them, Desert Storm Fighter is pushing the limits of friendship with the hierarchy.

I guess I've got to keep a close eye on the exchange, which of the short list are more 'common'?

Well I suppose you can be forgiven and welcomed back into the fold ... ;) The Jack Hammers are a great looking blade..!!!

There is always the Ward Dog, either a HACK from Busse or one from Scrap Yard, both are in INFI and the handle is really comfy and grippy. And they come in 4' or 5' black or tan.

When I went down the same road I started with a Jackhammer ... I got one of the 2008 Special Editions which were'nt painted and came with a fully convexed edge ... the "competition finish" was found by some to have rust issues through a de-carb layer on the knife which came like that to give a dull basic finish which was cost effective ... I never experienced this issue and liked the dull finish as it avoided "shine" issues for my specific military needs relating to sniping ... it came with a back false edge which I shapened up a little to enable it to be used with a ferro rod ...

I stropped that covex edge and reprofiled it slightly so that it was like a "competition cutter" ... it could cut free hanging cotton thread no problem ... you could shave with it if need be ...

P1000877.jpg

The edge itself however became like a mirror ... pull the knife out of it's sheath and that edge really "gleamed" ... scared the $hit out everyone who wanted to see it ... which is no bad thing in a "fighting knife" ... but as an instructor I felt I could'nt have a go at the guys on the course about "shine" issues with kit and still carry this knife ... it also had limited chopping ability which is useful for hide construction ... so I sold it and went for a 3B2 ...

P1000850.jpg

I got this for the obvious paint finish and plus I really liked the smooth black paper micarta grip ... I also hoped it would have a it better chopping ability although it was about the same ... I decided to give the knife a small clip point to use with a ferro rod and to help if need be an a back cut as a "fighter" ... I took the clip edge to quite a sharpened clip ... it definately could cut if need be ...

P1000851.jpg

I liked this knife a lot for field use ... it did well at everything bar chopping ability ...

P1000706.jpg

This then lead me to look at the SAR 4 ... the gimping on these negated the need for a false edge for a ferro rod and the handle design was done to enable a strong rearward grip for chopping ... I was so keen on these that I bought one from the first release which was the Limited Edition run which came with a full convex edge which I liked but was done in a satin finish ... I did'nt know that later on they would release a bead blasted double cut version which would have been much better for me ... I had planned to bead blast my own ... that was a bit of a gripe for me that they did'nt tell you what versions were going to be done at the start ... but now they give more information in their releases ...

P1000694.jpg

This design whilst not specifically a fighter is by far the best small knife design I have used if you want to be able to chop with the knife ... the rear grip makes it feel like a good 7 inch blade ... in the end rather than lose a lot of money bead blasting it I sold it on ... I looked for a while for a bead blasted version but in the end I just went back to the knife that I like the best for my uses which is the Basic 9. It weighs in at just 14 oz's and carried diagonally behind my kidney pouches for a rear cross draw you cannot tell how long it is on my webbing ... not that this is so much an issue for us as Khukri's are carried by quite a few of our forces ... so whilst I wanted to look at something which would fill my role best and tried the smaller models ... the best combination "do it all" for me is a longer knife which can chop well.

As a "fighter" this is actually a big benefit because with chest mag bandoliers and kevlar getting through to the opposition with a stabbing ability is limited and I would prefer the options of chopping as well as cutting in that situation.

No one's said anything about the MoFos and Mojos?
Sexiest fighters, in my opinion. Probably have to stretch beyond $400, but it varies how much.

Fighters to me have to First and formost be able to have penitration qualities ,if ones attacter is wearing leather its got to be able to go through to hit a area to inflick pain ,bleeding or death,
Second must be at least 6 to 7 inchs to penatrate the heart or lungs or to push through the neck and slice forward cutting everything.Plus the longer the edge the better sliceing can be acheived sliceing muscle, tendens and veins can and will slow down or disable your attactor.

As for the knife I do Love the AA but in my world its to be adored its just so purdy,When im in defensive mode i carry my Jack Hammer as a primary fighter, but rececenty I have bought a HH55 and the UG although shorter than i like both are great combat knives even the boss jack has its qualities for a street fighter but less penatration do to the points design

All in all if you can stick,, slice and keep your head, any knife will do,,But if you really want to go crazy for under 400.00 get a swampRat Rucki they feel great have the reaching distance for sliceing and diceing and the most aggressive point i've seen on any busse or kin but im waiting for my AA looks to be a close match

Alex, that TB Persian variant is one of those regrets I have had. I like the TB a lot and I bet that thing has a great feel with a slightly lighter blade. Congrats Bro!!!

If I were to quite carrying firearms, my choice to take there place would be a Boss Jack and Boss Street, depending on what level of concealment I would require.
They both have a very clean robust design and similar handles, both can still be bought at reasonable prices too! God forbid you need to use one, your probably not going to see it again for a very long time if at all.

YUP!

If I found myself in a fight where my life was at stake, I would feel lucky to have my TGLB on hand.

Not I, M-4 or 357 Mag. for me. I'd hate to say this but knife fighting is a fantasy that we all indulge in.

I personally think this is the best fighter Jerry ever made ,,,,,,BM-e ,,,,,,,,,,,it's value is more than $400. though, lighter than the full sized Mistress but quick in the hand and fully up to most any task.

If something a little smaller is in order ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, any of these will do nicely ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and the right price

12G or 5.56 with a 9mm backup is my go to.
If it goes to knife it's gone horribly wrong.
So yes I tend to agree with you.

But I LIKE knives!

BeGreen 61: I have a Rucki. Agree it's a proper fighter but couldn't carry it at work.

Peter PHWS: Thanks for sharing your journey. My particular circumstances differ from yours but I agree with what you say. Big dumb knives may be just the ticket when big dumb moves take over (ie gross motor skills) from finesse. So while I appreciated your POV what really struck me was that Jackhammer. Damn that is a beautiful blade.

I started this thread with a HG-55 fairly firmly set.

My eyes have been truly opened to the Jackhammer and Urban Grudge. So nobody has really helped me at all. Now I need three knives when a week ago I only needed 1?

A WTB is the go I guess and I know people need to make money to make way for Blade blades!

!

Go with the Jackhammer for the one,,but when you get a Busse its like Lays Potato Chips you cant stop with just having one

I hope you are NOT referring to LK. We don't send friends there.

I'm new, what is the back story on why he was booted? He's got a LOT of nice inventory and I've inquired with him about some. Is it his markups, or was he taking too much new business from Busse? Just curious...
