Hi fellas , long time reader on this forums but always been too lazy to sign up

I know some people like to call it "tactical" or other names , but I'm gonna call the sob like it is - fighting blade .

Maximum 7" blade length , high quality steel (s30v would be great) , strong tough handle and solid sheath (not a piece of garbage like the leather sheath that come with the USMC Ka-Bars)

My budget is around 100-120$ .
I can probably go a little bit higher , but I just don't feel it's necessary .

Thanks !

Smatchet!

(Sorry, could not resist.)

Do you want western or asian design? The Fairbairn-Applegate design is an iconic western combat knife. Will this be your EDC?

Western design , made in the USA
Will it be my EDC ? unlikely but definitely possible from time to time

You didn't mean the KA-BAR USMC Fighting knife is a piece of garbage? You know they make "non-leather" replacement sheaths. Anyone who says the KA-BAR USMC Fighting knife is a piece of garbage should be flogged.

think "vicious00machete" meant the traditional use of leather for sheath material.

"...strong tough handle and solid sheath (not a piece of garbage like the leather sheath that come with the USMC Ka-Bars)... - vicious00machete"

fighting knives come in various forms.
bare in mind that pure combative knives are not dual purpose tools.

No need to act like a douchebag

I obviously talked about the sheath - "piece of garbage like the leather sheath"

The KA-BAR USMC knife is a beast and wicked value for the money , and yes I know they also come with the kydex sheath if you pay a little bit extra

I just used the KA-BAR leather sheath as an example for a type of sheath I rather avoid

(not a piece of garbage like the leather sheath that come with the USMC Ka-Bars)

ouch... I've had my USMC kabar and its sheath for about 10 years now and it has seen a lot of mileage on it and is still in excellent condition. I guess I dont know what sheath you're looking at, or perhaps your definition of "garbage" is far different from mine.

M7 bayonet. 1095 steel, metal sheath, and you can stick it on the end of a m16. Seems like a pretty good fighter to me. Cost like $40. That scrapyard seems like a really good deal. Now I really like this one though:

Kizlyar Pheonix. 7" blade, great plastic/kydex sheath, made in Russia. I know they have these at impactguns and worldknives.com.

Thanks, I know what he meant and addressed an option to explore.

You know they make "non-leather" replacement sheaths.

The part about "possibly" dissing the KA-BAR USMC Fighting knife and it's history was just dry humor since it's such a time honored blade. Guess I'll be a douche. :(

when looking for a dedicated "fighting" knife it really depends a lot on what style of fighting you propose to use. Bowie, Kabar, dagger, smatchet, tanto, etc etc. Also if the knife is reserved for fighting the edge is not going to be abraded by utility use so you only need a blade that can withstand shock and retain an edge sufficiently to cut through clothes, zippers etc. Some potentials with (1) blades around 6" (2) reasonable/proven blade steel and (3) in your price range, chosen at random from knifecenter b/c it has lots of knives and is easy to search:

I also really like the ergonomics of the Gerber LHR but I don't know the steel http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=GB0183

And if you could find one of the Camillus versions of the Terzuola combat knife, since discontinued, in either coated CV or bare ATS-34 that's a really great knife (now being made by Myerco but outside your specified price range: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=MEYMFBTFB1S )

That's what I was thinking. I've found that Kabar's leather sheaths are pretty solid - especially compared to the nylon/plastic sheaths that Gerber turns out or Buck's leather sheaths.

To each his own, I guess.

Check out John Greco's Whisper, MST, etc - ~5" x .200" - and includes a leather sheath (Sorry!). Google Greco knives. He did attend the summer AGCA Show in Birmingham in July - and generally had 'sale' priced variants left over from the Blade Show. Interesting guy - I hope he'll come back. I have a few of his 'specials', he is a craftsman.
