Fighting fixed blade

I was going to say I can't help to myself, because for price, and material the ka-bar is tough to beat at all. And then you said you wanted it in "quality" steel, read new sudo-super steel to me. Well, I can't think of any non-carbon blades in that price range with that style blade at all. And then I get the big shame on me when I read BUSSEkin from Drew's post. Yup my number one and only recommendation for your specifications is now BUSSEkin. If you are steel picky, than they will not disappoint.

just a thought.
so just what is knife fighting or more likely, fighting with a knife all about?
if we're talkin' about merely collecting, than it's a pretty simple process of picking what suits a collector's fancy.
user's on the other hand would have to go through a more complex decision making process.
times have changed fighting practices and this pretty much rules out knife-dueling.
so, out goes the x'tra long blades with equally long hand guards.
daggers are most effective in stealth attack modes and little else.
blade points and cutting edge length is primary thing to consider.
than there are matters like handling capabilities, ergonomics, carry options, and the legalities of actual carry.
many have agreed that knife fighting has to be looked upon as near last ditch attempt in personal defense.
and this calls for a serious rethinking of just what constitutes as a fighting knife for an urban dweller surviving in the 21st century.

Vicious00Machete, Im going to recommend the Gerber LHR. It is designed as a fighting knife from the get go. 7 inch blade and a full tang construction. It has a composite sheath with a quick release system for drawing the knife out in an emergency and a very sleek aggressive blade profile.

The street price fits your requirement also. There you have it :)

I hope I don't get a lot of slack for this but I like my blackhawk tatang double sided blade sharp tip for penetrating and slashing and could possibly be a good thrower (never done it) but very blade heavy and it cost me only 60 bucks.....but sheath sucks ass

Well, the design of fighting blades hasn't changed much in its basic design for hundreds of years IMO. the size, weight, steel, and method of manufacture has, but guarded blades for parrying and for hand safety, and tips for stabbing sweeps for slashing, have all been features of fighting blades about as long as history. Just because civilization appears more civilized and dueling is illegal, doesn't change the design of a fighting blade IMO.

If you are looking for a purpose-designed fighting knife (as opposed to a more all multi-purpose fighting/utility design like the Ka-Bar), CRKT has a couple that you might want to look at:

Crawford/Kasper Dragon and James Williams Hissatsu

Both were designed by well repected CQC instructors as dedicated fighters. They are well made and reasonably priced ($60-80). They both also come with good (if not great) plastic sheaths suitable for web/molle gear. The only drawbacks from your perspective might be that they are not made of super-steel (being 9Cr18 and AUS-6 respectivly), and I think both are made overseas.

i don't think you'll find a 7" s30v quality blade with kydex sheath for $120 or less. even other quality steels will most likely be more. at that price point you'll have to compramise somewhere in your equation.

While it is debateable, for me, there is no "fighting" blade that reaches less than 7" and I for that space I must insist on a Cold Steel Tai Pan or other double edge.

I must insist on a Cold Steel Tai Pan....

+1  I handled a Tai Pan in a gun shop and they must have thought I was a bit whacked. Not your average joe I guess? I put it through the paces and found it to be an awesome fighter. "Slightly" handle heavy, the blade felt like it had a life of it's own. It's capable of incredible speed and insane angles of attack. A true "fighter" and well made IMHO. :)

I don't think you'll find a Tai Pan for $120,maybe on the Bay.But,I concur that it would fill the role of a fighting blade quite well.
