the assist springs scratch g10, so there is the smell and everything. i read user had them eventually go different ways into g10, caused stop working. so need to know before throw money in a trash - any problems with bm 707? i know it have no assist, but any other design fails there?

i read there were problems from blade hitting spacer, long time ago, i don't search too much, are they still there?

The 707 is my most carried knife in my collection. My 3 are all flawless glide open with absolutely no play in the blade at all. If you're thinking of the 707 I can't recommend it enough. I have everything from low end Kershaw to CRK and hinderer and none have replaced my 707.

" flawless glide open with absolutely no play in the blade at all."
bro, i don't really understand this kind of statement, NEVER.... they guys often mention it, but i had a number of bm's, and ALL of them had pivot play. and i saw many other people having such problem, maybe there is some weird luck like your case that you managed to get three pieces of ONE model(!!!) without a blade play. i saw very few production knives pieces that matched this measure, were not benchmade anyway. other pieces of that models were just usual. if you tighten it - it will be stiff before the play is eliminated. you can polish the washers but it voids the warnty, so no way. it doesn't bother me anyway))) it cuts well, opens, and i never use it for fish, so no problems. are they new ones anyway? what is the date of production?

All 3 have been bought in the last 3-4 years the most recent being about a year ago. I have 2 satin and 1 all black. I have had several BMS with with blade play, my 943 being one of the worst but my 707 couldn't be better. I usually add a single drop of Teflon oil to all my pivots for the extra smooth glid, sometimes it helps with blade play.

I've bought about a dozen Benchmades within the last year. I own several that are older than that by up to a decade.

The only time I've ever had a Benchmade have side-to-side blade play is when the pivot loosens over time. Benchmade doesn't use a thread locking solution on the pivot and it's been said this is a design decision to allow the owner to adjust his blade opening to the desired tension. It's a given that the blade will loosen and it will happen very early on with Axis lock models and people flipping them open often. Solution is to remove the pivot screw, clean it, apply Loctite, adjust to the desired tension and let it set up for 24 hours to cure.

The only time I've ever had a Benchmade have front-to-back blade play was with one Stryker model when it was new. The Axis lock and the blade tang took a few openings and closings to wear in the mating surface. Solution was to use the knife until it wore in.

The only assisted opening Benchmade I own is a Mini Barrage. I'm not a fan of AO so I don't use that knife much. I can't comment on the Torrent.

I do own a 707 Sequel. It's a fine little knife and I would recommend it if that's the type of knife you need. And, yes, it has "flawless glide open with absolutely no blade play at all" just as reported by Blade-fiend--especially after adjusting the pivot as described above. All of the Benchmade's I own share this characteristic. Apparently the vast majority of Benchmades share this characteristic since you see so many people flicking them open on Internet videos.

(Sorry if this comes across as brash but I read the trolling post on the Spyderco subforum yesterday and it's made me a little sensitive to what comes across as unfair criticism.)
