File too Large

There seems to be a problem uploading photos. All of a sudden I'm getting the message that the file is too large. I've double checked and even photos of 300kb won't load. In fact photos that I posted this morning will no longer load. Any ideas?
Spark Spark Kevin I thought this was a temporary glitch, but if you could read the few posts here maybe you can figure out the problem

Just a guess, but I think that the media gallery limit may be your problem. For Platinum memberships, it's 30mb..that's not alot of photos of largish size.
I could be wrong on that.
Maybe use an image hosting service such as Imgur?

bhyde bhyde Spark Spark I think this is some kind of a wider problem, as I'm suddenly having this issue just now as well, and I don't hardly have anything in my "gallery".

ETA - Something weird is going on here. I can't upload any new photos over about 400k. However, I have random success uploading some pictures I've used here before around 1MB. Some work, some don't.

I don't post from a gallery, I post by dragging a file from my desktop directly into the post. I'm also getting the 'file too large' message.

That's how I do it and it's working again. I was going to chalk it up to user error but since all is well it appears it was just a temporary computer hiccup.

Okay, cool. I was worried, because when the software switch happened last year and Photobucket pulled their links, I was trying to figure out the direct loading method. I asked a number of times for clarification as to where the photos were stored, and if there was an upper limit to posting this way. I kept getting answers about media gallery limits, which is a different issue.
I'm trying to load a picture that is 546KB, and I'm still getting the error message. I can load one under 500KB.

r8shell r8shell I wish I knew the answer. I just uploaded one that is 487kb and last night got one up that was about 750kb after struggling for hours with my normal resizing method. Something is flaky.

Thanks, I'm relieved it isn't just me. I'm hoping it is just a glitch, rather than a matter of reaching a storage limit that I can't find in order to make more room.

bhyde bhyde Something is going on. I just uploaded a 1.2mb file to a conversation but got the file too large trying to post a 487kb file.

I'm having the same problem, even with photos I've posted previously. I find that if I further reduce the size of the file, it's OK. I remember your questions r8shell r8shell , and it's a shame they weren't answered at the time o_O

I have no problem keeping a folder of reduced size photos to post. I can't figure out what the limit is.

I'm still having the problem. Can't load anything over 400k. Given that several folks all started having this issue around the same time leads me to believe it's a configuration issue, not us.

Yeah, I recall the threads. I think the individual user limit is for the "media gallery" (30MB for platinum), but there isn't a limit for images uploaded directly to threads. Hoping we can get Spark Spark to look into this new problem for us.

I wish that I could help- Settings and configuration of the software is something that Spark is in charge of..The mods don't even see this.
He has been tagged enough, so I will let him do that thing that he does.

Sorry all :(

No worries Bill, I figured as much, which is why I tagged him.

My issues are random here... Sometimes I can upload pics at 2mb and sometimes I get hit with the 400kb limit. I've posted at least 2 dozen photos in the past 2 days and have run into this with 3 of those photos.

That's what I do, but some of those pics are now triggering the 'File Too Large' alert, when they didn't previously o_O

Same here

It has become random. Some yes, some no, and size is arbitrary.

Here's the deal folks - We ran through 80gb of server storage space in 8 months and my hosting company informed me that we were about to run out of server space altogether. I went and looked in the configuration and for some reason the quota system was turned off, as long as file sizes.

The max file size is now 500kb for photos, and dimensions are 1600x1600. If your photo is larger than that, optimize it - there's no reason for a photo to be bigger than that.

Really everyone should be using the media gallery - that's what it's there for.
