What kinds/brands of file make good knives? I know nicholson files are good, what others are too?

Simonds are also good. I shop pawn shops alot, and if it says USA on it anywhere, I buy it. If it says china, japan, india, pakistan, etc, I leave it there. Haven't had a bad one yet, but probably just lucky.

I use long angle lath bastard files to make the shoulders on my knives and I find that if used properly they do make a good knife.
They are Nicholson brand files by the way

Like Fred, I find that high quality files make great knives......especially when applied to 1080 or W2.

Hehe. I find so too, but 1080 and W2 are things that aren't readily available to me.
