Hello, I am making my first knife and it is going pretty good but i want to do some vine file work on the spine.
I want it to continue at the part where the handle is but doesent it fill with epoxy when attaching the handle?

Does anyone have experience with this and know how to prevent it?

Thank you :)

My goal would be something this :

I saw a video on Youtube of someone using a powdered paint to dye the epoxy. Not sure exactly what it was, though.

Not sure what they use in epoxy but good chance it is something like transtint powdered dye if they are using powdered dyes. Someone here will know.

I've seen that type of file work before and always wanted to try it, however it looks so intimidating. That must take ALOT of practice and precise measuring.

I got some acrylic paint laying around.
I will use that on a test piece to look how that will turn out.
If that doesent work i will try to look for some powder or something else.

Probally wont be able to get any fancy stuff where i live.

Epoxy is a result of a chemical reaction. Anything you add to it will change it and can effect curing time and strength etc. I would use something for epoxy if you can get. Most the knife supply stores sell it. Maybe you can order it. I think I paid a couple bucks for black and silver. It only takes a drop so it lasts forever.

There are all kinds of epoxy dyes out there that are specifically designed not to compromise the integrity of the epoxy.
I suggest that you check the supply houses online for it rather than end up with an epoxy job that fails down the road.

Most of the knife suppliers sell epoxy dyes. l I really prefer the powders over the liquids.
