Hey, here with a quick question.

I need a good set of files to shape my handles. Does anyone have any specific kind/brand of file that they could recommend to me? A very popular brand seems to be Nicholson, but if there are any other significant brands i should know about, please let me know.

P.S. Wood and metal files, if there are any different recommendations between brands of wood and metal files.

Thanks for your time

Check with Karl Anderson. There is a special cabinet file that he uses for all his handles . It took stock off very fast when he showed how in a demo he did.

I use an assortment of rasps and files along with lots and lots of sandpaper. The older Nicholson rasps and files are good as are Simmonds. It seemed the quality of Nicholson files has been going down hill even before they sold out. Flea markets and garage sales has been a good source of quality older files for me. I generally pay between $1 and $2 for them.

I use round, half round and flat rasps and files, so get a few of each if you can. I have a 4 in 1 that is also handy.
