files used for blades

Hell0, I recently saw a thread where a file was mentioned as a good choice as blade stock. How is the best way to shape it ? Grind it or use another file ? Any information would be helpful .

hi bandit, welcome. you want a old nicolson or black diamond file.(good steel) heat cherry red and let cool over night in sand. do this twice, then it should be soft enought to hand file or grind.
