files

I've got a bunch of old English made files, needle files, and rifflers from the estate of a retired mold maker I bought out. I want to say they are "Stubbs" brand. Great ones I'd keep an eye out for. I'd never seen the brand before, but I'd say on par with Grobet. Probably out of business now.

Stubbs went out of business some time ago, sadly. England had dozens of companies who made files, all of which were excellent! They can still be found NOS occasionally. I use Vallorbe, Bahco and Oregon chainsaw files now.

I think the "Oregon" chainsaw files are rebranded swiss files.. Last ones I got atleast were marked as such, some have been specifically marked Grobet.

javand javand I think you are probably right. As an apprentice i used all English makes, non of which are no longer in business, which is a crying shame:poop: If you get stuck, please PM me, i find the odd stash now and again!

I've found "Windsor" chainsaw files to be a lot more aggressive than most of them, but still quality and decently long lasting. I usually keep them and a finer brand such as Oregon or stihl around in each size.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Friedrich Dick, they've got some very good files, and some really odd configurations, *IF* you can find them. They are becoming much more available, from Switzerland I think?

I thin the Friedrich Dick files are German designed, but from what I could tell I think they are made in the same factory as Vallorbe, but it's right on the border between Germany and Switzerland.

Yeah, they're "German Pattern", and cut numbers, which I guess are a bit different than the Swiss. Either way, the more options the better.
