This is a stock removal knife from 52100 high carbon steel. I start with 1/8 inch stock, profile the blade and remove some of the stock from the taper to the point and edge and finished the grind after heat treating (why hammer it at the forge on something this thin). The key to making a knife this thin that is used on a flex is proper heat treating; a coarse grain structure will cause the blade to break. This knife will flex but it is not wimpy.
Slight convex grind with a 600 grit finish
Professionally stabilized and dyed curly maple handle
Overall length is 12 3/4 inches with a 7 1/2 inch blade

Nice, have you ever made a smaller one like a 5 inch blade? I guess you catch the bigger fish and need a longer one to fillet those whoppers!! :p Very cool. Love the handle.

Got it, your knife will go out in the morning. Thank you.

Looking forward to putting this one to use. Over the years I've tried just about all the production make fillet knives, still have many of those around. Different knives do better for different fish. Also have quite a few nice custom fillet's. Glad to add this one to the collection. It is a beauty. Thank you Gerald, and thank you for getting it out so quickly.
