I'm thinking of making a filet knife from a flexible putty knife .... Would this mean no need for annealing or tempering ? And if you have made filet knives What materials have you used and any other thoughts on this subject is appreciated Thank you ....
No offense, but why not just get a Rapala or Victorinox filet knife? Both are dirt cheap and certainly a lot easier than grinding, polishing and sharpening a putty knife.

It would work as a toy, but it wont hold an edge at all, "too springy?"
I wouldn't even know what steel it is, I have a putty knife
that has rust all over it.
