Where did everybody go??? I'm planning to do some filework on the liners of my CQC7. Any tips, thoughts, ideas? I've never taken apart a liner lock-it looks fairly simple (especially compared to the Rolling Lock!). Is there anything I need to look out for? And for goodness sake lets revive this forum! It's like a morgue in here!

uh oh-I just remembered that the C7 liners are made out of titanium! Has anyone tried to file these? I need advice! Thanks, Paul

You might want to ask corduroy (Drew Gleason) I think he might be able to give you some pointers.

Email address is adg@student.umass.edu
I think he's a little busy but I'm sure he'll answer any questions he knows.

Ross-thanks. Man, Corduroy must be one busy dude! Everytime I ask a question about modifying one of my blades, everyone suggests I talk to Corduroy! I'm simply going to have to have him do some work for me, as everyone speaks very, very highly of his work. I've got a few projects in mind that I can do myself, but when those are finished I'm planning on sending a few blades to Drew for some custom mods. I guess I'd better get in line!

Get in line fast, cause I got lots of stuff going on in my noggin about knife projects and I told him I'm just gonna foreward all my paychecks to him.

Can't wait to show the blade I sent to him after I get it back. You guys will freak when you see this one.

ptpalpha - I have done some file work on titanium. Using a file on titanium is not bad. Make sure you keep your file clean. I tend to get a lot of build up in my file with titanium. You don't cut much and you start to slide off the area you are working. Then you end up scratching or damaging an area you didn't want to.

One thing I have run into while working on Emerson's and Benchmades. The blades seem to be rock solid when you get them out of the box, no lateral play. After I have taken a few apart and put them back together, lateral play developed to the point the blade would rub the liner when you open the knife. Even tightening the pivot and the other screws as tight as possible wouldn't solve the problem.
The Emerson's I sent back. The Benchmades I was able to adjust the blade position by opening the blade half way and torqueing away from the liner it was rubbing. I wear heavy gloves when I do this. It doesn't take a lot of pressue and it seems to solve the problem. I don't know if this has to do with tension on the liners when they are assembled and then when they are taken apart the tension is no longer correct....

That's my wee bit of experience.

Emerson Forum runs in cycles. It gets active and then gets quiet. It did this at the other forum it was on. Maybe we'll get to see some of the new knife designs Emerson Knives is field testing. That would wake this place up.

Paranoia is only smart thinking
when everyone is out to get you.

Dirk-OK, you scared me. I have some lateral play in my Carnivour and am debating sending it back to REKAT-I don't want to have to mess with this on the Emerson. Maybe I don't really need to file the liners.....
Thanks much for the advice.
