Filework on production knives

Just a quick question that I'm wondering before I start practicing filework on some scrap steel.

Does the fact that steel on production knives has already been hardened, affect the ability to create filework designs on the spines/blades of folders?

I want to be sure before I get my technique right on scrap and then move onto some folders.

Should be easy for all you experts but I'd be very grateful for some advise!

You will have to use diamond files or carbide bits in a dremel to filework hardened steel.
