filework tools?

I'm looking to get some new files for doing filework and am wondering what most of you use. I've just about killed a set of swiss style needle files and need some replacements. I use chain saw files for scallops, and they work great, so I'm mainly interested in triangles and edge files.

Anybody use diamond needle files, and how long do they last? Anybody found something better than a triangle or sharp elipse for doing lines across the spine?

Thanks
James

Haven't had much experience with diamond needle files. I normally use chainsaw files.
I very rarely do fancy filework. The most i do now is with a checkering file.

Give Alan Folts a buzz. He's one of the moderators. He does some fantastic filework using only a Dremel tool. I have seen him in action doing this and it is amazing.

To some folks, it might be concidered cheating, but I've always used my Dremel with a flex shaft and abrasive discs. I use the extra heavy duty ones for fixed blades and the real thin a/o ones for folders. They work great, and personally, I see nothing wrong with using them.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I never work with my Dremel and the abrasive discs without wearing leather gloves, a respirator, and face shield. That thing turns super fast, and sometimes the discs can disintegrate instantly. You also have the metal dust and debris flying all over the place, and often, right at you.
NEVER USE YOUR DREMEL WITHOUT YOUR SAFTEY GEAR ON!!!!
