Filing Around...... UPDATED

So I've had the micarta for less than 12 hours and I've already begun experimenting with dye.
I tried some leather dye and so far so good. Once dried, I scrubbed with soap and water to be sure no dye would bleed off later on if they got water or sweat on them. Worked perfectly!!

Here is a pic of how they look at the moment!

And here is a pic with the sheath.
Matches nicely since I used the same dye for the sheath and now the micarta.

i really like the black micarta. The sheath looks good too, im not sure if it's a product of the dye or not, but it looks like the sheath almost has a little distressed look about it that im really diggin

Thanks.
Yea it does have a cool distressed look. The tan was really hard to dye. Most dyes really faded when wet. This one worked pretty good but did fade a bit when I washed. Had to wash it cause it did tend to bleed out a tiny bit if wet and I did not want that on my hands or clothes while issuing it.

Definitely going to have to get the micarta for my 15, and that file work is great! Good job!

Those mods turned out really great.

Great process photos. I always appreciate good photo skills :) The dyed black sanded factory micarta and tooling on the spine look really slick. The grooving really pops out after you painted the spaces. You've inspired me to work on my 16. I think it needs an etch job and some new scales...

Looks great Dex...In future though you might wanna try pouring epoxy (mixed with black paint/dye if you want) into the gaps to fill it up. Might be better for keeping out dirt and potentially avoid any small hotspots.
