I just moved to NYC...i've been training in Martial Arts for 20 years...mostly Jiu-Jitsu....any recommendations for a Filipino Arts school in Manhattan?..I would really like to improve my knife and stick work....thanks.

check out Sayoc Kali or Atienza Kali. I know stickwork is part of the Sayoc system, but you'll probably spend more time working with short and long blades than with the rattan. I'm sure there are other schools and groups represented in NYC (there are probably players in Pekiti Tirsia, Doces Pares, Inosanto blend, Dog Brothers Martial Arts), but I've only got personal experience with Sayoc Kali. I feel comfortable recommending the Atienza Brothers, as Tuhon Sayoc has always given them his support.

I guess it really depends on whether you want to focus on the blade or on the stick.

Good luck in your search,

Steve

If Staten Island is not too far, the Filkenjutsu school is very good. They do not teach only FMA but a combination of Kempo, jusitsu, kickboxing and eskrima. Really good stuff and very well integrated. It's an off-shoot of the Kajakenbo style. Go to filkenjutsu.com.
