Fill the gap

get both...ASH1LE, and SFNO LE. the ONLY logical answer.:D

seriously the ASH is lighter, great slicer - do it all blade, the SFNO is a must have.;)

I think you have your answer in either the the ASH 1 LE or SFNO LE (1 of 300)

I would also add the Tankbuster LE into the mix.

Really all 3 knives are excellent and will do what ever you ask of them but they do have different qualities and characteristics IMO. As always, it will just come down to personal preference.

Let us know which one you pick.

Yup. I think those are my candidates  Does anyone have comparison pics (ASH-1, SFNO or Tankbuster) with an SAR-8?

I have never been a fan of the SFNO. It is a pretty knife but as a user I feel that I can get everything I need out of a SH1 and have a smaller knife.

But what you really need is a Busse folder.

Price and availability are two very large factors to consider when comparing those two knives.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I didn't mean that he'd hunt down the original SH1 but that the new one ASH 1 LE would do just fine.

ASH-1 LE gets my vote! :D

I don't have the Tanksbuster... but here's some comparo shots of the SFNO & ASH-1 blades...

They basically have the same blade... lil' more of a drop point on the ASH-1s.
So it really comes down to handle preferences... Me... I like the ASH-1 handle for a blade this size.
And the SFNO handle looks and feels big on the SFNO, and is more fitting for the NMSFNOs in my opinion.

So me, I would go with the ASH-1 LE. :D

Does the Boss Jack also come in satin/tigerhide  I couldn't find this combo anywhere... If they did I'd give it a chance as the shape of the blade comes pretty close to the SAR-series. If not I'll have to meditate over "SFNO le vs. ASH-1 le"

Thank you for the pics. The comparison shots are great  Would still be good to see them next to an SAR-8 though.

Here ya go... :D

Not the SFNO LE, but a variant. But you get the idea. :p

And I don't believe the Boss Jack has come out in satin and tigerhide.
Might have been a knife show one off though... ya never know these days. :D

I would go SFNO or SARsquatch CF. You'll most likely be able to get the SARsquatch for significantly less money. I love mine. Good luck!

Well, this pic should give you a good idea. The Hellrazor is the same size as the SFNO. Keep in mind that you can probably have whichever one you pick rehandled to tigerhide if that is your fancy. Having learned the hard way, it is much better to get the right blade than the right handle material, hence that is why there are no SFNO's in this pic as they aren't the right blade for me. In fact, due to that experience, I have had 2 SFNO's and 3 NMSFNO's but own ZERO now despite really liking how they look.

I love my TankBuster, but I never use it due to it's excessive weight for it's size, but it matches my FBM LE and keeps her company in the safe. The Skinny ASH is my absolute favorite in the size you are looking for and I had one rehandled to Blue/Black G10. The Hellrazor is my SFNO equivalent that I actually found to work well for me, but even it almost got sold. As a head's up, a satin BOSS Jack is probably the closest thing we will see to a SAR 6 and quite honestly, it fills the bill very well as a compliment to & without hacking up a $500 SAR 8 (see bottom knife below). Also, don't forget the SJTac/Jackhammer in this size. Good luck and happy hunting.
