Hardness is not a restriction to flexibility. The blade is ground from 1/16" at the front of handle to .030 at the tip (on the spine side). A soft blade would bend, not flex.

The knife is designed to fillet walleye or similar fish. If I was going to fillet lots of bass, crappies, or thicker boned fish, I might use a stiffer blade. I filleted a 2 limits of walleyes yesterday caught on Lake of the Woods on the Canadian/MN border with a very similar grind (from my tackle box) and it worked very, very well. Flexible blades in the hands of an experienced filleter make the job enjoyable. Also, technique will make a very big difference in how a knife performs. I have watched guys and gals fillet fish with techniques for which a machete would have worked. :) I worked in a fish house on Rainy Lake the summer I graduated from high school. I was taught how to fillet by a talented native American. And, I wear a two fingered SS mesh glove- like I did at the fish house job. This makes the job easier and safer. My knives are sharp and they stay sharp. Thanks for looking.
