I was recently asked to make a fillet knife for a friend of the family as a Christmas gift while im on leave in December.
i was wondering if any of you would know of a material or type of scales that would not rot or be too slick after getting wet, It will most likely be a field knife for fishing.

Im in new waters here, any ideas would be great

G10 is very stable (won't rot) and if you don't polish it to death provides pretty decent grip when wet - certainly better than micarta or stabilized wood. The very best grip (wet or dry) is neoprene or horse-stall mat material.

Black canvas Micarta ( on of my best fillet knife handle sellers). G-10 is also good, but I find it a tad slipperier when wet with fish goo.

Stabilized woods also work well. One of the best sellers in this group is stabilized spalted maple. I often have it dyed red by the stabilizer for fillet knife handles.
