Ok, this was just for fun. I enjoy carrying the little Serge Panchenko dogtag (spyderco version) around my neck and have been pretty surprised by how useful it is. I have often wondered if I could actually fillet a fish with it so I gave it a shot and took a video of my first try.

I was mostly just having fun but it was a good reminder to me that we knife afis sometimes can get a bit carried away with our "design requirements". Don't get me wrong, I don't want to have to use a 1" sheepsfoot as my dedicated fillet knife  but at the end of the day it is a sharp piece of steel and makes for an adequate tool for a lot of tasks.

I love how your holding your camera in your mouth when there was another person standing by :D . Also, nice job!

Next time I buy a fish I am will put my 180mm Suisin INOX honyaki deba aside and take the small Sebenza for the job. After all - it has 3 times the blade size, so it should be 3 times easier :)

Cool video, I never tried breaking down fish with such a small knife, seems fun.

Sebenzas are ok for fish, since I am able to disassemble knife first easily.

Not that filleting is like orthopedic surgery but I would gather that you're filleting experience wth perhaps thousands of fish in your lifetime helps a little to make it look so easy. Slick as snot either way Lance.

Yet another example of how you really don't need more than a few inches of blade for most everything.

Yeah, you can accomplish most anything with even a small piece of sharp metal but I definitely wouldn't call this one "optimal" for the job. I can tell you this, the second I turned the camera off I reached for my 7 1/2" Phil Wilson fillet and went to work. It was a fun little exercise working with the tiny blade though.
