Filling out your profile

I know that people can track you down no matter how anonymous you think you are on the internet. I sometimes play an online game and people get hacked, one of my good buddies got his account hacked and the hacker was tracked down to his address within the hour. This isn't some bigtime government consipiracy, just some computer wonks that were mad about their buddy.

Ah well.. the main reason about filling the profile out is mainly for location so we are better able to give advice. It may not seem like much but knowing your geographic region better lets us give advice about suppliers and such. Take belts, if you're an Eastern guy, Pops and Tracy are great, if you're a Western guy then Tru-grit and Tracy.... Canada or points elsewhere I dunno  How many times have we seen a post about steel and there's some sort of supplier within driving distance of the original poster?

What about those of us (as previously mentioned) that work in sensitive positions? This is the case with me, and I really hope that I can still count on everyone here to help me in my quest to become a modern artist in the knife making world (long term goal!! :D )

I know for a fact that some preperation that goes into some of the training that I have the potential to go through involves the instructors trolling the WWW to see what they can find to use agains the idividual and keep them off balance during the training (long story...)

So please understand my reluctance in posting private details about myself here... but please feel free to shoot me an email or contact me via Skype!

Very Respectfully,

Frank B

wow-i looked at my profile...i thought i had filled it out...guess i never did:confused:....anyway i think it's alot easier to respond...especially if there is a maker close to you that can help you out....knifemakers are typically very generous with their knowledge and time.....i don't think it's right to avoid answering just because someone wants to remain anonymous but that's a whole nother can of worms.....ryan

I don't see the point of staying anonymous at this forum. It might be normal for people thinking knife making or collecting is a abnormality or sharing their names and whereabouts would really risk their lives (like spies etc. :) ) But other than that, to stay anonymous for an ordinary craftsman like me is something paranoid behavior, unless I don't share my credit card number or my bank account password etc. I see no problem to share my personal info with all internet people incl. hackers and criminals. Let them know who am I, who cares; I would answer him /her if someone I have never met before have asked who I was on the street...

Hey Dan,

Many of us stemming from this forum have met each other.. and have become pretty good friends

it's not a bad thing to limit your info but it's just to me more.... hospitable
for lack of better words...:)

Appreciate that! I hope that the others feel the same way... as soon as I am no longer doing what I am currently doing I will be more than happy to fill out the rest of the info... but until then I really appreciate the understanding and help that I have recived thus far...

Sincerly,

Frank B
