Fillinger gallipolis, ohio

Yes< this is John Fillinger, would like to thank you all for the nice things you are saying about my work< you make me want to start making knives again< i told Jim Downs< if i ever make knives again, they would be liner locks< but could a old timer make it in kinfe making today<( you know it's a young man's game ) and they are so many good makers , out there today<i'm 57 years old, it's something for me to think about, thank you all-----------------------------------------------------------John Fillinger

Jeez, John, don't make yourself out to be an old timer! You're younger than a lot of us on this board and several are top makers still at their craft. (I've got a year on you, myself.)

If you're inclined to start up again, there'd certainly be an audience for your work.
(Here in the traditional forum we primarily go with slipjoints and lockbacks as far as folders go but we have forums that cover all manner of knives.)

Peter, thank you very much for showing us that fantastic knife, whats the size of that beaut?
John, as Blues has already said...welcome...please stay, that knife you made there is right up there with the best of them if you ask me, and we would surely love to hear, and see more from you and your work, thank you for coming in and letting us know the great end to Peters mystery

Peter, this knife has some of the best Stag that I have seen ( nice choice there John ), why not bang a photo up on Gregs "STAG" thread as well?

YES , I made the knife, I'm JOHN FILLINGER in GALLIPOLIS <OHIO 45631 , I started making knives back in the 70's, Still have all my Grinders and other tools, and I made all of JIM DOWNS grinders to, he was a UPS driver, so he would stop and see me every day, Times was good back then, THANK YOU -----JOHN FILLINGER

John,

this is amazing!
Thanks for answering our questions and welcome to the forum!
I must admit that after about 5 months I didn't think we could find out much more...
This forum simply is a great place :)

Maybe you have additional informations or even pictures of the other knives you made.
And I'm pretty sure that if you decided to make knives again there will be quite a bit of encouragement from us here ;)

Best,
Peter

Duncan,

the knife is 4-3/4" long closed. The blade is 3-1/2" long.

I found one more pic:

Yes, I'll put it on Greg's "Stag" thread as well. It's fascinating to see how well the both slabs match.
Thanks for the good idea

Best,
Peter

Peter I'm happy that you got your answers. I absolutely love that knife! I truly hope Mr. Fillinger decides to get back to knifemaking, I'm thinking he would have to start a waiting list for his knives.
Once again, great knife.
Dan

I love the pattern myself being a "nut" of the 73# from gec, the handle design is also very comfy..not only sexy but also great in the hand
yours has a beautiful looking blade and the stag, well you know it looks great
