Filson Coat?

I got a Double Mac Cruiser a few weeks back and the second layer cannot be removed as it is sewn into the body of the coat. A couple family members back home in Oregon have the single and really like them. Filson's wool is just fine of you get caught in the rain for a bit but there are better choices if you are going to be rained on for extended periods of time in my opinion. I wear the Alaskan guide shirts most of the fall and winter. They are the best shirts I've ever had, though the sleeves run a bit shorter than those of other brands I've worn.

I double checked my double Mac last night, and mine is sewn also.

Shirts... maybe my second most favorite Filson product next to their wool vests. I have two Safari cloth shirts... my absolute favorites. I also have one feather weight shirt... also excellent, but ya gotta shake it and hang it up after being in the dryer for a few minutes... otherwise it wrinkles. Doesn't bother me, but my wife hates seeing me in a wrinkled shirt. Sheesh... women. I also have one Alaskan guide shirt, and it puts every single other flannel type shirt to shame.

My biggest gripe with Filson shirts is that I require a 2X-tall, and they are limited in their choices of colors available. I can guarantee you that if they offered talls in all their colors available, I would have one of each! Filson, are you listening? :D If I had to pick ONE fabric, I'd go with the Safari cloth. But I cannot see being in African safari heat and wearing one of these... my big ol' Scandanavian butt would be sweating! These shirts make fantastic upland game shirts for when it's not too cold. Just the shirt, hunting vest and I'm good to go as long as I am walking.

I also forgot to mention that I also have Filson luggage and their shelter cloth hunting vest. ALL of this stuff is TOP SHELF. I see them lasting GENERATIONS!

I think Filson needs to put me on their payroll! ;):D

I'm bummed about the color selection for tall too. I'm a XL tall most of the time. I talked to them about it, and you can get "custom" clothing from them, but it's retail + 35% any color they offer, any size, etc. Takes time though, and they are backed up because of the holidays.

I have a Filson cruiser that I don't wear much. It is quite heavy for the warmth it delivers. I like ski type jackets with hoods, removable liners, vented armpits, covered zippers, etc.

Mine is the tin cloth Cruiser jacket. It really is as tough as they say. It's TOUGH.

Five years in the Colorado gasfield - rain, grease, muck, snow, wind... Hardly a scuff on it, and still as weatherproof as the day I got it... although it doesn't fit like it used to (my fault, not the jacket's).

I had a shelter cloth cap once. That was enough to convince me not to get any treated cotton. It attracts dirt dust and grime. A single wash; maybe two and the coating is done for. i have an untreated cotton cruiser. very good jacket
My Fav. The vests. A surveyor, mackinaw, and two westerns. My new fav. whipcord. Ive got pants but have really thought about getting a coat. probably not. their stuff is espensive. and i dont need a coat. But if you do need a coat-it's not that expensive because it will last a long time with hard daily use.

Filson products are amazing. Those two coats are different items. Apple vs orange. The Cruiser is the best wool coat you will ever own. But it is a wool coat. The Tin coats are the water resistant coats. They even stiffen up when cold, the wax content is that high. They are pretty damn indestructible. In my humble opinion - you need em' both.
