Filson hats

Wow, what a huge disappointment.
I drove over to a local sporting goods store that carries the full line of Filsons. Putting on the Bush Hat or the Packer hat was akin to stuffing my head into a coffee can.
Tight as hell front to back, and with enough room for a finger on each side.
Who's noggin is shaped like that? Charlie Brown's?
I guess I'll stick to the soft boonie type hats for summer and Trooper hats for winter.

They do break in, and once they do they are very comfortable and will last practically forever. To speed it up you can get a wooden hat stretcher, I had to do that with mine as it was a bit small and now it fit's perfectly!
I hope to get one of their wool crushers in the future.

The problem I'm having with Filson it that they are moving all their production to China. Of course that's generally what happens when a longtime family owned business is sold, what better way to make a quick profit.

There stuff still has a lifetime warranty but when you need to replace it chances are it will be replaced by a Chinese version.

They have some new lines of merchandise that are produced in China, but as far as I know, their old school clothing & bags are still produced here with no plans of moving.

I'm curious about the China comment too. A big part of Filson's devout following is due to the fact that they are American through and through.

I have a Filson Packer hat and love it. It didn't take long to break in and has served me very well for 5 years now. I don't wear it everyday because that style of hat is not something I would wear in public on a regular basis. But camping or hiking in the backwoods, you will always find it planted on my melon. I have not had an issue with it blowing off; even on the top of a 12,600 ft peak. I just pull it down a little harder if the wind picks up. I think I paid about $45 or so and looking back I think I would have paid double for that kind of quality.

They discontinued their American made boots this summer. They are back in the current catalog and under country of origin it says imported. What else is going to be shipped overseas?
