Surely, I'm not the only one who is excited about this. I loved the Emissary, but just couldn't get used to the tiny sub-3" blade. I had this problem with the mini-Barrage, but was able to go to the full-sized Barrage and I love it. I'm excited about having that option with the Emissary now.

Same here. It's a little expensive though.

This knife needs Ti scales and M390 steel, but then it would surely be too expensive.

Oh and take off the lock.

and the assist

If the assist is like the barrage it needs to b removed for sure (as I have done), however, if it's like the volli I say keep it. The volli explodes open like the 580 but is MUCH easier to close. Either way, I guess having it come assisted is good. As the buyer has the option to remove it if they don't like it.........but that's just my opinion. It's probably wrong ;)

as far as i know the emissary's assist is intergrated to the scale. unlike the barrages housed coil spring. haven't heard of an de-assisted emissary iirc.
information on this particular topic is scarce.

thats all, of course, with the small model in mind. the 3.5 has a different safety, so there might be other changes.

I believe it's the same Axis Assist, but the Emissary is super hard to take apart - I attempted and gave up for fear of damaging it (to be fair, I didn't put that much effort into it as I was just tinkering).

My Volli just came in and I absolutely love it. I don't know that I'll de-assist it yet though (and I typically do).

The Larger 477 Emissary appears similar to the 943 (maybe slightly beefier than the 943) in specs, and I don't yet own a 940 or 943, so I may have to pick one up in the meantime.

I like the fact that it's assisted but can still b closed one-handed without fear of losing a finger. Love my volli also. Had seen it several times online and liked it ok, but didn't think much about it. Was in a local shop and asked if I could hold it. Flipped it open once and it's been in my pocket every since. It's def one of those knives u have to use to appreciate

I remember benchmade saying that THEY have a special tool to install and remove the assist on the 470. I personally don't mind assisted knives as long as the design is something I like. The 470 has a great shaped blade and in a SUPER light weight package. The new 477 is going to be in my top 5 benchmades once I own it for sure.

Not a fan of aluminum but love everything else about this knife. The 477 would be a real gem in CF or even lowly G-10!

I prefer a standard Axis lock but I wouldn't mind assisted knives as much if it weren't for the damn safeties.

One of the best parts of the 477 design is placing the slide safety on the left side. At least there it's out of the way. On my Barrages the safety on top is hard to ignore.

that's not quite right. like the barrage series, the large emissary now has the safety on its back. wich is completely fine for me.
there is a youtube video of th 477 where you can clearly see it.

Gotcha. I went to the SHOT video and there it is with the safety on the spine.

Anybody pick one up? I've never looked for assisted knives but something about this one is really tugging at me. Love the aluminum handles. Anybody? Pics?

The 477 looks just alright to me. I would definitely rather G10 or CF over aluminum. I like the S30V but wish the blade was thicker. The assisted opening I wouldn't mind. I loved the Subrosa. Can't believe they stopped making that one.

Weeeeeell, not exactly "picked one up," but I do have one in hand. :D It's very nice, even if I might be a mite bit biased. Very different feel from the original, being larger and heavier, but still feels great in the hand, good assist action, easy to close one-handed. The lock is easy to manipulate as you pull it from your pocket, finger just naturally falls on it to slide to off.

Thanks for the pics and impressions, Critter! That Knife Rights customization looks pretty slick, too. I think I'm sold on this one.

If at all possible, I'd love to see a pic directly on the spine, and if you've got one, a comparison to the 943.
