FINALLY...a Rat Daddy!

snwbrdr, can you list the lineup. I recognize the RD and the DJ as I have them myself. The others I'm not sure of. Is there a Dog Skinner in there? What set is everyone referring to? Thats all the gen III rats?

Well brother, my grail set was these 5 knives: Rat Daddy, Rat Mastiff, Ratweiler, Desert Jack, and the SAR Rat. There was also the Dog Skinner (D2/SR-101), Safari skinner (D2/SR-101), and the Rat Hunter (SR-101) as part of the older lineup. I don't really consider these part of the old school combat grade lineup, but they are epic Swamp Rats nonetheless! I just can't justify spending over 300 bucks on a piece of D2 when I can get a fat little piece of SR-101 like the SAR Rat. But then again...it depends on just how bad you want your grail! I believe Jeepdude has all of the knives part of the original lineup. I'll shoot him a PM to see if we can get some pictures :thumbup:

Ahh! I see. Are you saying SR101 is superior to D2? Or just preference/price? I'm a fan of D2. I love my Vex. That's why the Dog Skinner showed up on my radar not too long ago. I'm on a small Old School quest myself. Like I said, the DJ was my first grail score, followed by the RD. I never paid much attention to the mastiff, so I didn't recognize it. I think the Ratweiler may be next. I love that blade size. Maybe I'll have to convince myself I need a SAR Rat...

...I often feel bad when I get one of these Old Schoolers in my possession, because I beat the p!ss out of them, thus leaving fewer pristine rats on the market for those weirdo safe queen guys... :D Thanks for the help buddy. The quest never ends.

D2 is just simply more fragile. It is a steel made for slicing and cutting chores; not abuse. You can baton a Desert Jack through a MASSIVE piece of wood, but you couldn't do the same with a D2 Bog Dog. That being said, if you were processing a deer with a D2 Rat Hunter...I'm sure it would be a much better choice than say a SAR Rat. In my eyes, SR-101 is a superior do it all steel; maybe even moreso than INFI!!! Some guys don't like the fact that it rusts easily, but I really like the fact that SR demands some love & attention :p

I miss my Rat Daddy :( I'm going to have to find another one eventually.

I love my battle mistresses but there's just something about an old school rat that feels good. I'm not sure what it is but whenever I hold an old school rat I just get "that feeling". It's like it's an old faithful friend.
 
Since the thread got resurrected and given questions about the line up.
The whole set (let's call it Ratweiler handle series) consist of (top to bottom): Rat Daddy, Rat Mastiff, Ratweiler, Desert Jack, Dog Skinner (D2), SAR Rat (got mine modded on secondary market), Safari Skinner (both D2 & SR-101), Rat Hunter and Rat Shaker.


And with the two offshoots, Chopweiler and Taz Rat
 
Nice lineup B, if you ever get tired of that Ratweiler again let me know. Congrats buddy. :thumbup:
