How do you freehand on the sharpmaker stones? You used the SM as a benchstone?

I am just holding one stone in my left hand, then making edge leading strokes with my right.

I hope you find it as fulfilling as I do. Sounds like you are getting some good equipment also. The DMT stones have done me well, that XC cuts pretty quickly (I think you will like it).

Thanks Ken! I am ready to get my supplies in so I can put that wedge to work. I don't think I'll ever quit using the EP, but I will definitely freehand when time allows. There is something about free handing that appeals to me. It's so much more tactile than the edge pro.
