Finally, After a Decade...the Falcata

Ive been watching that blade since post too. Grats Steely! Glad you could snag it. Great reading to go with it too.

This poor guy could have used a Falcata about then:D

As someone with a few years of Latin, I found that hilarious.

As someone that has been around forums for a while, I think Mr. Steely is trolling us professionally : D.

(Kiddin'.Or am I?)

Ah....at last......the workmanship does indeed appear impeccable....it is larger than i expected and i expect good shields were very much appreciated against a blow from something such as that....it is mind boggling elegant....and i know just the man to talk to when i run across something too obstinate for my tarwar....you chose well, Glasshoppah.

Alright Moon! I think we better leave him alone now:D. Its real! Definitely real! Real purdy! Looks great on ya Steely! Thanks for the pics. The blade shape has some semblance to the Giant Chitlangi Bowie but thats about it. Gotta git me one.

Nice beast Jake, very elegant, not too mention intimidating, if it was ever in your hand for some "serious" work.

Thanks guys:D

I've got the Falcata hanging out at my bedside. If I couldn't get to my .357, I wouldn't feel too bad being with with just the Falcata;) It wants to fight. I can feel it in energy that thrums through it. I'm actually rather intimidated by it when I move it around. Any light nick or thump or graze is going to lay you WIDE open. I have always been OK with the idea that a sword doesn't have to be a razor. You are letting the weight, edge, and physics do the work for you. That said, Kumar sharpened this monster to a shivering edge:eek: Just letting the edge weigh against my fingers, I can already feel it start to bite. A fraction of a millimeter movement and it would draw blood.

I will say that one needs to be careful about over-travel swinging this blade. It's a heavy brute, but as some of you have noticed, undeniably elegant. Honestly, I wish there were a 15-18" version of it. It would make for a hellova close quarters weapon. Right now, I dunno how I would carry this behemoth around. Maybe I could wrap the scabbard in an old umbrella fabric. Then it would just look like I was packing around a beefy 3+lb umbrella:D

The Purna Tarwar also arrived quite sharp....and the point is a needle....

I already have some clearing done with the blade and swings wonderfully and likewise need to be aware of what is past what is aimed at, as it likely will be hit as well...

So when you figure out what you will actually DO with it, and how it works for you, be sure to post some commentary....we could anoint you with a new motto, perhaps recycled from one of the engineering battalions in Vietnam tasked with dropping enormous jungle clearing bombs and Agent Orange, harkening back to Smokey the Bear....
" Remember....only WE can prevent forests!"
