and the other day i uncovered the second knife i tried to grind on my grinder and thought this is fixable except the plunges on both sides lol

the grind still needs some centering but that will have to be after heat treat so i dont go to thin
while fixing the grind i realized i learned alot about fine tuning grinds and getting a feel for my grinder. I think this might be good practice for any beginner who still has a couple of there first profiled blades that they gave up on.

just finished my first heat treat and temper the other day i didnt get any pictures of that but they both skate a file so i did my finish grinding and here they are
i still need to take the corners off im tempted to leave the scale on it but ill probably sand it to a nice satin finish

and here is the other one after finish grinding i decided to leave the 120 grit belt finish on the blade and to try something new so i sanded the clip out to 600 the picture didnt really capture it but i kind of like the contrast

all i have for handle material is some untreated oak so i did a little run of walnut oil i figured i would post it since its a great oil to use for any wood that you want a food safe finish on as its all natural and doesn't go rancid
i start with frozen walnuts and grind em up in the food processor

then i stick them in the oven just to warm them up so the oil comes out easier after baking fold it all up into some cheesecloth

i use this huge old vice from my grandpa to squeeze it i just wrapped some 2x6s in saran wrap then folded some aluminum foil in between to further separate the walnuts and the oil from the wood but also to catch and channel the oil into my container

this one is an experiment somebody gave me a really old saw blade so i did a spark test and cut off a piece for a heat treat test and it skated a file. Its only 1/32 so i made a paring knife we'll see how the steel and the thickness work out

i decided to try to make a kitchen knife out of my 1084. its pretty thick the 1/8 inch 1084 i got from aldo was oversize it should still be better than anything in my kitchen though. i think im going to do more distal tapering tonight
