finally broke down: incomming Spyderco

Interesting to hear that about a Manix. Surprisingly your impressions of the Delica are spot on with mine, perhaps you could consider returning the manix if you're unhappy with and and pursuing an Endura? There little sense in holding onto a knife you don't like. If I were in your position

I would likely return the Manix and look into the Chinook 3, or maybe a zdp Caly 3. IMO the spyderco midlock is one of the best executed locks on a production knife, with the compression lock a close second.

thanks for the impressions, always good to have new takes on things.

Comparing it to an xm-18 that cost 3x as much is like comparing apples to oranges.

I was asked for my opinion in this regard. Also, actually it very much IS comparing apples to apples. They are both tactical folding knives. To be most accurate it is like comparing a gourmet apple which costs 3x more than it's cheaper cousin (and likely to last 3 times as long while holding a great deal of it's value).

Finally, totally agree that I would not be banging my knife like demonstrated in the video...that was, as stated in the clip, a torture test to see how it held up BUT if you search the same poster's video, he uses a ZT300 in the same test and it functioned w/o a hitch in all regards. What I did not like most about the Manix from his test is that he claims the blade loosened significantly after the "whittling on steroids" part of his demonstration...not good in my humble.

In closing, the Manix for my use is an EXCELLENT slicer in a light package that is very visually appealing with great ergo's for my hand. Based on that I'll keep and use it for a spell.

That video was highly debated here and all it proves is that the knife needs a healthy dose of loc tite. I wouldn't expect many things to be very strong if they get loose and aren't holding their designed tolerances. Would you be surprised to hear a car blew up its engine going down the 1/4 mile if some major engine bolts weren't tightened down?

My S90V Sprint Manix 2 doesn't feel like you describe and I have beaten on it pretty hard though not to the level of abuse in that video. There was also a thread with pictures and video of someone who beat the snot out of a Manix 2 on the Spyderco forum. I don't remember all he did but he did stab a car door and hood over 50 times I believe and posted a video of a bunch of spine whacks. All I'm saying is take the video with a grain of salt and maybe something is wrong with yours or needs adjustment.

Absolutely fair assessment on your part, and exactly what I plan to do based on the fact that I really like the knife other than it's "light duty" feel (which might change if it can be tightened up and stay that way). My question is, why not check the knife before sending it out...a little QC would go a long way to support the perception of the brand.

...and, I don't want to lose sight of how impressed I am with the Delica4. For my needs, a simply superb light EDC. Love it.

I don't think you should be using such a faulty product myself. I'll send you my address and paypal a few bucks to get it shipped to me so you can stay safe :D

My first Delica caused me to sell my Buck 110. Spyderco is by far my favorite knife company and I use my knives pretty hard during landscaping and general handyman type jobs.
