Finally buying a Small Sebenza 21; updated: Just got it.

I just got my first small sebenza today. I'm used to the large.

This little guy is going to be much more convenient to pocket. I can see why you guys say it's hardly noticeable.

That is beautiful, Tmack!

I'll be sure to put some decent pictures of my small plain sebenza tomorrow. Looks like it'll be here in the afternoon, which is perfect because I'm going to be removing my front bumper, adjusting my shifter, and measuring out a ton of tape in varying sizes. My first day with the Sebenza will warrant its use at light-heavy duty so, I'll be able to give it a proper test run. I've waited so many years to finally own one of these, let alone put it through its paces, that I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to see the mail man.

Just got it a few hours ago. Easily the best knife I've owned to date in terms of a solid feel and design.

I haven't used it a ton yet but, it came with a typical edge on it right out of the box. Nothing really impressive. Yes, it cuts but, no, its nowhere near shaving sharp. I really just don't ever expect any knife to be impressively sharp out of the box; they never are, no matter how much hype there is.

That's not really a gripe though. The factory edge is the only thing I found to be anything short of excellent. It looks great, feels great in the hand, cut through several segments of radiator hose and hasn't lost any of it's edge. It rides in the pocket entirely unnoticed, locks up extremely sturdy, the pivot is super smooth, and the frame lock is something I'm really liking over a liner-lock or BM axis locks I've become accustomed to. I'm definitely going to carry this knife every day and use it as it is meant to be used. After using this knife today, I can't really imagine owning a Sebenza that never gets used.

So true, but then I don't own a CCG one of one's with woolly mammoth inlays and DT Damascus blade.

By the time I can afford to get my hands on one of those, I'd still probably end up carrying it simply because I could. They're made to be used, even the prettier ones!

I thought about that for a while. I think the only extra precautions I'd take with a CCG or inlayed/damascus one would be to keep it in a pocket sheath/pouch and wipe down the blade more regularly/throughly. Then again, I probably would only use a damascus one on very light work. I guess there isn't much sense shoving such a decorated knife into an engine bay or whatever other dirty tight spots your knife winds up in :D

It really is a shame regarding CRK factory edges. I'm surprised they haven't revamped their sharpening department after numerous people talking about dull edges. But I'm glad you're going to use the Sebenza! A Sm 21 was my first Sebenxa as well. Use it hard then send it for a spa treatment in a year of two!

I have not been carrying it very long, but so far I find it takes no extra care over any other knife I carry/use. If I get it into a nasty area, I just clean it when done. Seriously, they are tougher than you might think.

Congrats on your new Sebenza. I have one Carbon Fiber Damascus Sebenza. So far I've only given it light duty. It is a excellent Steak Knife, cuts right into a KC Strip Steak like a boss. I wash it off afterwards of course. When I get a Micarta small or large S35 steel sebenza, I'll take it out camping or give it other more heavier tasks.

Thanks guys. You guys have all been right about this knife. I knew it was tough to begin with but, I'm really impressed after carrying it for a few days now. There's really nothing it can't do. From simple food prep to cutting through radiator hoses, zip ties, and thick wood, it has lived up to its legacy as an amazing all around knife. This has quickly become my favorite and most trusted knife. I couldn't be happier and can't wait to add a big Sebenza to my collection.
