Finally can't use slip joints anymore.

Sorry about your plight jackknife. I'll offer up some prayers that the eventual surgery goes well. You never know about those prayers though that old thumb may just start acting right after I offer 'em up:). Have a Merry Christmas!

Jackknife wishing you a speedy recovery. I have an Uncle Hennery stockman that I got as a second years back when you all told me of the bad news about Schrade. It has a weak main blade to the point that I can open it one handed. You are welcome to it, to get you through the healing times. It aint bone but it’s a knife that thanks to you all got me back to slippies. It was that temporary insanity you mentioned.

Sorry to hear that jackknife! You may look at getting a Case Russlock; I had one and it's a great locking single blade jack that's easy to open with either hand.

I am with Peter on this one. This is a jimdandy of a slipjoint. I fell off of a latter at wok and injured my right wrist some years back and the Russlock earned my respect PDQ. I was opening it with my south paw (one handed) in about an hour with proficiency. Very highly recommended, IMO!. I now have several just in case.

Get better soon, Carl and if you need a Russlock shoot me an email and she is all yours.

Best,

I want to thank all of my traditional blade brothers for the offers of loaner knives and prayers. I'm very touched by the offers of people whom I've never met but for electronic impulse exchange. It just goes to show once again the high class of people we have here on this site.

I'm getting along just fine with small fixed blades, so well in fact, I am questioning myself if I will go back to carrying a folder once I get my hand operated on. I do have two Opinels I can open, if they don't get wet, as well as a knife one of my breakfast circle loaned me. It has black zytel handles and bead blasted stainless blade, so its for dire emergancy only. Actually, it's a Gerber LST, and it's a very impressive little knife if I was only concearned about a cutting tool.

Again, thank you all!:)

Jackknife

I am glad that that you doing the sheath knife thing. Hope you recover quick. I will keep you in my prayers. Do reconsider the bit about not using slippies though. It's one of life's pleasures.

I really like the Russlock as well. Kinda wish that it didn't have the cat's paw liner sticking out. Had one back when I was younger. I opened it against my jeans though.

God Bless

Someone may have said this, but have you tried a slippy with an easy open handle? Wouldn't need to use your nails one bit. Something like this...

I see this hasn't been touched in a while, but you could pick up a knife opener off of ebay or other markets I'm sure, it's like a guitar pick but you put the tip in the nail nick and can open it like that, that way the knives you have can still be used.

Sorry to hear about your thumb jackknife. Best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Perhaps a ringturn penknife would do the trick until you are better.

okay, I admit they gave me some veeery nice pills, and I'm not feeling any pain when I drop one. But tonight, I opened my 'nut! YEAH! (doing the Walter Houston jig)

It hurt a little flexing my thumb that much with the stitches still in it, but I got the little sucker opened.

Yeah! WOO HOO!

Okay, back to normal knife talk programing.:D
