Finally decided what my favorite brand is

I just wish ZT would make more smaller blades.
I wish they would also. But of late, they have been making flippers and larger knives with heavier blades flip better.

Added: I guess there is a difference between a favorite knife brand and the one you would choose above all others.

Not really sure that I have a favorite brand but, I do have a favorite knife feature. It's the Axis Lock. The funny thing is I don't care for most of Benchmade's designs.

In the past, I have felt that Kershaw offered some of the best buys in the knife market. If I have to pick a favorite brand, I guess Kershaw would be it.

A rough count would suggest my favorite brand is Rough Rider. I would never say that on my own, however, so I go with Opinel. I have had them for a lot longer, and use them a lot more.

I’m patiently waiting for the “mini” 940.

Great brand. Always made with quality materials for a decent price. I love my 0452cf. They're light, fit well in your hand, and tough as nails. Good choice for a favorite!
Not sure if I could ever pick a favorite brand because there are just so many quality brands out there right now. ;)

I only have a few Rough Riders and they were purchased to try out. They're okay and quite a value in my opinion. I technically own more Frost knives, but I don't like them or use them. I in fact have zero interest is Frost branded knives beyond an academic interest.

By knife count, my favorite brand would be GEC/Northwoods GEC. But my favorite brand is in fact Victorinox based on my personal use. Never really tallied up the Vic inventory, but there are more than a few. But I like most knives in some fashion just like I like most firearms (as long as they function reliably).

After all these years I've finally decided that zero tolerance is my favorite brand. Spot on fit and finish, good choice of materials, great ergonomics(for me),really nice pocket clips,And they're just plain cool looking.(to me)

I gotta call "so far" on this. I've had so many favorites replaced by other favorites, I've lost count. FWIW, ZT was my favorite brand for a few months about a year ago, so perfectly good choice for right now.

ZT used to be my favorite until I found out about Spyderco. Zero Zt's that I have are slicers and they are all Tactical looking.... And while that is neat it's not useful. I don't use knives for Tactical reasons. I don't use them for protection, or fighting. I use them for cutting.

Sure zt's are sharp and they cut things, but they are not slicers as the geometry is more Tactical. So while zt has many great features as you've mentioned and I love them for those reasons you mentioned.. But they need to make actually useful knives that are good slicers. This is why I like spyderco. Cause the geometry allows for less friction when cutting.

My realization was a more recent one as I keep buying more of them and compare them to the zt's when cutting all sorts of things. My 0850 is sharp af but didn't slice some rubber tubing at work when I needed it, where as the Spyderco military made short work of it.

I think zt markets more to fire arms market for Tactical folders. It's crucial to sales for zt.

So I went from zt because of the quality and materials and action etc. Then switched to spyderco as my main users. Still love those zt's tho.

Spyderco is offering the same quality, but far more options and blade materials including super steels like M4, maxamet, zdp189 etc at affordable prices. Not to mention they are sharpened better than most other brands these days. No blade replacements tho, and the warranty wasn't as good but recently changed to allow disassembly and they removed red loctite on new production. Just need to be able to buy a blade for a fee, that would be great.

I don't have any ZT so I haven't had the pleasure (lots of other knives though).
I have read Busted Tractors and Rusty Knuckles by Roger Welch
(I also read and enjoyed Old Troctors and The Men Who Love Them . . . both great books)
Do you have a Green Man or an AC ?

I don't have a tractor
. . . but I rebuilt and assembled a British car that I bought in cardboard boxes and baggies (including thorough engine rebuild) . . . ran great. Sort of like tractor work .

Which car was it? Any pictures of it complete?

Nothing wrong with knowing what you like! I am more or less zeroed in on one brand myself when it comes to folders. I am a little more spread out with fixed blades but still just a few companies.

USA Schrade are my number 1. So many good memories with those knives. Number 2 is Queen, however, I'm not liking most of their stuff right now.

In terms of modern knives it is probably Emerson, again just because they bring back good memories.

I love my ZT's. Had my 0566 in my pocket just the other day, and regularly carry a 0909.

Hard for me to pick just one ... if we are talking about folders ... then for me I really like ZTs ... they seem to have something to fit about any need ... size shape or materials ... so I guess ZT would be as close to picking one favorite brand as possible.

I own other brands Spyderco Benchmade etc ... but there are only a couple models of those brands that ended up as keepers for me.

I love my CRKs and Hinderers also ... but I guess I have more ZTs then all my CRKs and Hinderers put together. .. so I would have to say it would also be ZT for me.

If you get into fixed blades for me it would be between LT Wright ... Bradfords and throw in a few Carothers Performance Knives.
