Some of you probably saw me wearing the armguard and quiver in the photos of the shoot we went to a couple of weeks ago. Well I finally finished the last piece of the set; a pouch to hang from the quiver, or "manpurse" as my wife would say.

All of it is done with 8-9 oz veg tan leather, except the front and sides of the pouch which is 3-4 oz veg tan. No dye used, just the natural darkening that happens when I apply my finish, which is sno-seal with a little extra beeswax and pine pitch added. I've never used a more waterproof finish.

Well, here are the pictures. Quiver first, I used a piece of birch plywood for the bottom, but I stained it to go with the leather a little better. You can see the ring were the pouch is going to hang from.

I threw this one together pretty fast, in one afternoon, so I didn't pay very much attention to getting the edges perfectly lined up, trimmed and burnished. I knew it was going to be for me only, and a user, so it doesn't really bother me much.

Here is the armguard, I don't feel a thing with this guy on.

And finally, the pouch I have been working on. I am super stoked with the way it turned out, as I've never made a pouch before, and I've never made an inside out seem before. I learned not to pull the threads too tight though, on thin leather.:slap: I also made this pattern from scratch, so I didn't know how it was going to turn out.

Here are a few pics, before I turned it inside out.

P.S. My leather makers mark, which is brand new, has already changed, since I now notice that it could look more like a grumpy face rather than, moutains L river...

P.P.S. Special thanks to MtnFolkMike for letting me use his patterns for the quiver and armguard, and for letting me make them at his shop. And thanks to Boomstick for letting me use his shop, to do some finishing touches on the pouch.

Awesome man. Just awesome. That pouch turned out really good. The quiver and armguard look great as well! Mike is making me a quiver as I type. It will go great with the armguard and arrows I got from him awhile back, and will replace the cardboard tube Ive been using....:foot:

Have you used a back quiver at all? I havent, but I really like the basket quivers. Im eventually gonna make one after I learn a little bit more about basket weaving. Id also like to get some yucca when im out there in May to make a quiver out of, after I look over mikes yucca quiver.

WOW!

Everything looks great! I dream of making stuff that nice someday. Also, the cool thing is that they'll look better and better as you use them.

I almost spit my coffee when you pointed out the grumpy face.... that's funny, dude.

Awesome leather work.... great pattern.... good friends..... and a kickass outdoor grill!

Your skills are complete.....

Great looking stuff. Your "man purse" turned out great.

Nice. All this archery posting lately keeps reminding me I gotta get in touch with Mike. I need some of his stuff, cuz I suck at leatherwork.

right on Nick... that turned out great man... i like it.. that's a good size pouch.... that ring still enables you to attach some shoulder straps if needs be...

anytime you need to use my shop you're welcome....:)

i dig your grumpy face mark...:D

You do pretty leatherwork.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

I actually much perfer the looks of the back quiver, but when I tried on one of Mikes, it didn't feel right. I'm not used to slinging stuff over that shoulder, this style just feels right because that is how I'm used to carrying gym bags, or computer bags.

Looks awesome - so THAT is what the workout machines are for? ;)

TF

Workout machine?! I was wondering what all those other gizmos were for... I thought it was a bow hanger.

So, what are you waiting for? Mike will hook you up with some nice stuff, he does some top notch leather work. Makes my attemps look childish... sometimes...

Good eye Mike. I forgot to mention, In case anyone else was wondering how I got the pouch on the quiver, I used a ring that hinges in half and snaps together. I just put it around the belt loop of the pouch and the other shoulder strap holes for a left handed person.

Thanks again for the shop time. Be carefull what you offer, or you'll end up like Boomstick with me at you house, every afternoon, lol.

Oh, great, now I do "PRETTY" leather work. Glad you like my pretty man purse...

P.S. My wife is helping me come up with a new makers stamp, because apparently I can't come up with something on my own that doesn't get missenterpreted. So far, I'm liking this one that she came up with, although the arrow thing is kinda Mikes, so I don't know if I'll use it. >- L->

Outstanding, Stingray. Some really nice workmanship.

BTW, I know the gentleman that came up with that quiver design (no, it wasn't Raptor Archery...contrary to popular belief). I have been using that quiver design myself since the 80's and made some contributions to the strap design on the original.

Making your own archery equipment is SO MUCH more rewarding than buying something off the rack. Great job!

That is some damn fine work there Stingray:thumbup:

My son has been on my butt to make him a set like this. I'll show him these pics when I get home tonight.... So that means, I'll be making a trip to the leather store this weekend.

Looks great man

Hey, that's cool! I kinda know the guy that knows the guy that invented that style of quiver! So who was it?!

Yeah, I really like this design myself. It is more comfortable for me to wear, and super easy to get arrows out.

Well then, sounds like it's time for you to get to work! I bet he'll really appreciate using something that his dad made him.
