Some of you probably saw me wearing the armguard and quiver in the photos of the shoot we went to a couple of weeks ago. Well I finally finished the last piece of the set; a pouch to hang from the quiver, or "manpurse" as my wife would say.
All of it is done with 8-9 oz veg tan leather, except the front and sides of the pouch which is 3-4 oz veg tan. No dye used, just the natural darkening that happens when I apply my finish, which is sno-seal with a little extra beeswax and pine pitch added. I've never used a more waterproof finish.
Well, here are the pictures. Quiver first, I used a piece of birch plywood for the bottom, but I stained it to go with the leather a little better. You can see the ring were the pouch is going to hang from.
I threw this one together pretty fast, in one afternoon, so I didn't pay very much attention to getting the edges perfectly lined up, trimmed and burnished. I knew it was going to be for me only, and a user, so it doesn't really bother me much.
Here is the armguard, I don't feel a thing with this guy on.
And finally, the pouch I have been working on. I am super stoked with the way it turned out, as I've never made a pouch before, and I've never made an inside out seem before. I learned not to pull the threads too tight though, on thin leather.:slap: I also made this pattern from scratch, so I didn't know how it was going to turn out.
Here are a few pics, before I turned it inside out.
And the finished product:
And the whole set together:
P.S. My leather makers mark, which is brand new, has already changed, since I now notice that it could look more like a grumpy face rather than, moutains L river...
P.P.S. Special thanks to MtnFolkMike for letting me use his patterns for the quiver and armguard, and for letting me make them at his shop. And thanks to Boomstick for letting me use his shop, to do some finishing touches on the pouch.
