Finally finished,my latest Bowie(pic's)

I agree, that knife with the 5" blade looks larger than life! Really fine work, Bruce. Don't stay gone so long- I am looking forward to seeing your next great one.

The Blade is definately 5 inches and the handle is 4 1/4 inches. The originals wer available in 5-6-9 inch blades. Can't wait to do some more of these. Thanks for all the kind words everybody and glad to be back...

Dave, the platen does drag a little but not much.My platen was made from hardened D-2 with a mirror polish finish. You can take the grind to the spine with no problems.Look at the old Sheffield Bowies and you will see all kinds of grinds, they were all done on 5 & 6 foot wheels,it looks like a flat grind but it wasn't.In fact if you are not careful when grinding you will end up with a flat grind.I decided that is I was going to do reproductions I wanted to reproduce there grinds also,in fact some of their grinds don't work as well or look as good when done with a flat grind. The hardest thing is getting the platten made,a Machine shop is the best bet but it will cost you,so you really want to make sure you want to do these kinds of grinds.
Bruce
