Here are two custom orders I wanted to share with you. Overall I'm pleased how these came up. Both are D2 and 1000X satin finished. Amboyna scales, brass pins and bolsters and brass corby rivets. There is some work to be done; etching my signature, putting edge on and making sheath. I guess tomorrow these will be ready to ship. I would like to hear some comments on these... Thanks...

real purdy! very nice work. the finish on them is spot on.

Very pretty. I really like the blade on the kukri and the burl on the other handle is superb.

Thanks for the kind words friends:thumbup:. The kukri/yatagan variation was the most difficult shape I ever made. I couldn't figure how to grind that one on the belt grinder so that knife was made totally by hand, no belt grinder or another power tool involved. My back hurts after filing 5 hours. Fullers are cut with a hand tool I made and it was a real challenge to make them clean cut. I use corby rivets for the first time, when aligning the drill holes I messed up 30 $ scales before figuring out how to put corbys on . After 1 week of hard work finally I grabbed some beers, enjoying life ;)

Very nice! Do you feel that the "V" cutout on the butt of the Kukri-style blade will hold up to some hard use?
Beautiful work; thanks for the pics!

I'm afraid the weakest part of this design is that butt style, you are right. This is the worst side of custom orders, if it was for me I would shape the butt a little bit different but the customer ordered this classic yatagan style...

Interesting, I really like yatagans but the knife here looked more like a kukri to me. Not sure why... I'm obviously a lot further away from the yatagan tradition than you are and may have some incorrect conceptions of it.

You are right, this is not original yatagan shape... Kukri and yatagans are very similar in concept. I was talking about the handle type. My customer has bring me two knives of his, bought from original yatagan village last year (the actual Yatagan village is not so far away from my town). He wanted a smaller yatagan style "hunter", similar to this:

But he didnt like the handle style of original yatagans. He complaints about the carrying difficulties of that fat butt :). He also showed me a dagger bought from the same bladesmith, and wanted the ordered knife has the same type of handle:

When I began to shape the profile of my blade I noticed the original yatagan knife's smaller version would loose some aggressive cutting action because the weight would shift to back. So I decided to reduce the blade weight in front of the ricasso area and giving a little more curve and weight to the tip , making just like a kukri but having a yatagan dagger handle :D . It is a strange combination but it works ....
