Finally getting a lathe --

I chased down two Southbend lathes, one of them I drove 200 miles round trip to look at. The seller assured me it was in good shape. When I got there every part on it had slop, rust, extreme wear and pieces missing. The other one I drove sixty miles round trip and was in pieces. They both had a leather drive belt with a seperate motor. To top it off they both wanted $1000 for them.

I decided to go with a new JET 9x20 for $1200 which included two chucks, face plate, fixed and traveling steady rest and additional jaws. The only clean up needed was to deburr the threaded holes on the tool post. The 3 jaw chuck had a wobble that I could not true up so JET sent me a brand new one within two days.

An old Southbend would be nice if I could find one that wasn't completely trashed. Not to mention having to go on a search and destroy mission to find a replacement part.
