Finally got a 940-2. Not exactly impressed.

I've wanted a -2 for a long time and finally pulled the trigger the other day. It showed up today and I was immediately disappointed.

The edge is extremely coarse, and almost looks burned? The edge geometry is inconsistent as well.

The screw for the rear standoff was only half tightened. No big deal. Took 2 seconds to tighten.

The G10 scales are terrible. One scale is semi textured as it should be, but the other is completely smooth . Wtf?

The thing that bugs me the most is the lock stick. I've had countless folding knives over the years. My current collection is excessive, and I've never experienced lock stick anything like this before. It is horrendous. I have a bunch of other axis locks and none of them have any stick.

Being in Canada, I can't even send it in to Benchmade anymore, due to CBSA's new interpretation of the rules. :(

Not sure what to do.

Seeing as Canada may be a hard market to secure this item due to knife laws, you may be able to get a pretty penny for it (or at least a little profit...)

Pics are good.

Sounds like your the victim of hometown screw job, a g10 scale swap, a ballpoint spring, and an unknowing employee putting the knife back on the shelf (if from authorized dealer). Where did you get it?

As far as reselling your decrapitated knife for profit...:poop:

Yeah resale is not an option. I'm into it for way more than I'd be able to get for it.

It was purchased from Warriors and Wonders. If they agree to take it back, I'm sure I'll be on the hook for shipping, which in Canada, is ridiculously expensive. I think at least $10 each way and it's only an hour from where I live.

I'll try to get pics after work, but don't know how well the lack of texturing will show up on my camera phone.

Your first action should have been to contact Warriors and Wonders to express your displeasure.

Sending it into Benchmade is an option. Earlier this year (in January right before the CBSA stuff was announced), I sent in my 940 and 535 to Benchmade for warranty work from BC Canada (replacing the omega springs in both). They were sent back to me when the new CBSA guidelines were in effect. The entire process took about 2 months all told iirc and they made it back to me with no problems. Benchmade tightens the pivot(s) down hard when sending knives into Canada as to pass CBSA inspection. More recently I sent in my 485 to have the omega springs on that replaced and I have no reservations about it getting back to me given my previous personal experience with Benchmade’s warranty work and how they send the knives back to pass customs.

It may suck to have to send a brand new knife in for warranty service (wait time plus the shipping costs), but it certainly is an option, at least for me. Just my $0.02.

I'd return it to the dealer you got it from promptly for a refund ...

those saying sell it need to think how they would feel buying a knife the seller knows is faulty and then rethink telling you to sell it ... smh

I spoke with WW on the phone this morning and it sounds like they may pay my shipping costs depending on whether or not they feel my concerns are legitimate.

Looks like they'r open till 8pm tonight, so I might just drive out there.

I live almost an hour from Ottawa and I drive all the way in to buy knives at my favorite knife store, far too often it seems. So my advice to you, seeing it's only 2 hours out of your day, just drive in to W&W and trade it for another 940-2 (I love mine). Maybe you can pick up something nice for yourself while you're there, or maybe go to Wendy's (mmm Baconator), you know to ease the pain.

When I purchased and received my 940-1, it was not as sharp as expected. I immediately called Benchmade and voiced my disappointment. They emailed me a return shipping label at their cost, sharpened the knife perfectly and returned it at their cost. That said, I’d call Benchmade if you purchased from an Authorized Dealer.

Kutters or some other place I don't know about that sells Benchmade?

If the dealer doesn’t take it back you can always issue a chargeback if you paid by card...I had to do that for a pizza delivery last month of all things (long story)

Drove out to Vancouver last night and made the exchange.

The new knife is good to go. Good centering, no lock stick, g10 is better, and it seems to function more smoothly overall. Edge is still crap though. It hangs up on paper at least half the time. Going to see if I can make it better with a good stropping.
