Finally got a 940-2. Not exactly impressed.

Drove out to Vancouver last night and made the exchange.

The new knife is good to go. Good centering, no lock stick, g10 is better, and it seems to function more smoothly overall. Edge is still crap though. It hangs up on paper at least half the time. Going to see if I can make it better with a good stropping.
Benchmade doesn't do much for bur removal. A good stropping might be all that's needed to bring it to shaving sharp.

Sending it into Benchmade is an option. Earlier this year (in January right before the CBSA stuff was announced), I sent in my 940 and 535 to Benchmade for warranty work from BC Canada (replacing the omega springs in both). They were sent back to me when the new CBSA guidelines were in effect. The entire process took about 2 months all told iirc and they made it back to me with no problems. Benchmade tightens the pivot(s) down hard when sending knives into Canada as to pass CBSA inspection. More recently I sent in my 485 to have the omega springs on that replaced and I have no reservations about it getting back to me given my previous personal experience with Benchmade’s warranty work and how they send the knives back to pass customs.

It may suck to have to send a brand new knife in for warranty service (wait time plus the shipping costs), but it certainly is an option, at least for me. Just my $0.02.

They don’t check every package that comes through. You could send a gun, switchblades or even contraband into the country and most times it will get through.

The truth is with the vaugness of the current cbsa rules pretty much any one hand opening knife that is subject to inspection has potential to be confiscated.

The only way I would feel 100% confident a folding knife would get through would be to have it shipped first to an American friend. Then that American friend would remove the blade from the knife and send the blade in one package and everything else in another package. A costly and time consuming method that would void the warranty on some knives I know.

That’s why it is good if your Americanski friend is a knife fiend too so if there are issues he can return the knife for exchange or refund before he removes the blade.

I also live in Canada, send it back to BM.
It'll be fine.never had an issue. Now benchmades 940-2 is common to have worn looking g10 scales.
There's a thread on the forum about it.

Try using a q tip and swabbing the surface lf the tang where the lockbar sits and the lockbar itself. Sometimes when oil or grease gets on the lock it can create lockstick. Counterintuitive I know.
