Well its been a while since I purchased a kershaw so I figured I needed to change that. I was at the new Sportsman's Warehouse they just built here in vegas and they had a good price on the groove so I picked one up. I really like the shape and ergos on the knife. This one will replace my current edc for a while, my all black ENER-G II. The action on the groove isnt nearly as nice/fast as the ENER-G but I like the handle shape better.

Now I just need to learn how to sharpen a recurve! Lol.

I made my groove action faster than an Ener-g by polishing the pivot/washers and oiling mine up with olive oil. I would call it custom-like fast.

Olive oil huh? I polished mine today and added Tuf-glide, still not as good as my ENER-G though. The pivot hole in the blade isnt perfectly round though so that maybe be why. It opens pretty well but its impossible to open without flicking my wrist, which I can easily do with my ENER-G.

Hm, from what I've seen manual flippers are pretty easy to open without wrist flick if you get the technique down. However, I haven't handled a groove, so I don't know. Try pushing up on the finger choil to build up some pressure before you attempt to open it.

Olive oil, yup. I, too was surprised, but as long as you clean it monthly (disassemble, clean, re-oil) it won't smell rancid. Another plus--it's foodsafe.

I've got mine to zero blade play, half-on frame locking, and opens as fast as a ZT auto (but without the satisfying "CLUNK")--and those auto's are beastly openers.

I got the technique down, I can open my skyline just fast as anything. I might need to try and fix the flat spot in the blade pivot hole. Anyone have any suggestions on how to do that?

Grooves are great! I've used both an Idahone and a SharpMaker on mine.

My Groove opens much faster without the flick than than my black NR-GII does with it (although my Tanto Groove is tighter than the NRG).

I've decided break-in can be like breaking in a new motorcycle; you need a few thousand (flicks), to bed things bed in.

Thank you for the pictures.

I kind of see what you are talking about, but I wouldn't know if that caused anything and/or how to fix it, sorry.

Its easier to see in person, I can probably get better pictures but I just took those real quick. The pivot hole isnt perfectly round and it kinda feels like it catches on in certain parts as it opens.

Oh, ok--I'd just polish it with a chopstick with sandpaper wrapped around it. If that doesn't work, then maybe a circular dremel tool with a sandpaper insert.

I used a buffing cloth attached to a dremel at high speeds for my groove.

EDIT:
Now that I look at the pictures one more time, I'd say you need a dremel for that.

If I use something powered will it get too hot and mess with the HT? Maybe it will kind of break itself in after enough use.

What type of powdered were you thinking? (sorry I'm a bit clueless when it comes to modding/tinkering)

I think it would be really hard to mess with the HT, but I could be wrong.

Like a dremmel or drill or something? I dont mod/tinker much either, except for sharpening and polishing washers and such.

I'd say try sanding it out first--I wouldn't have the skills to drill mine. Maybe STR would know?

I wish I could be of more help! :(

I meant some sort of attachment on a drill because I dont have a dremmel. I might just mess with it for a while and see what happens.

Can I try? :)

If it 'catches on to something, could it be that your pivot 'bolt' thingy is not perfectly circular? Meaning maybe if you sand paper polish your pivot bolt thingy then the knife will swing better. Cause if I'm right, rounding ur blade's hole will not fix the little something that's on the pivot.

I already polished the pivot, dont think that the pivot is the cause.
