Finally got a groove!

My Groove has been my EDC for several months now. No problems with opening without a wrist flick. I think I would give it a TV treatment (a couple of hundred opening and closings during your favorite TV show or shows) and see how well it opens after that. If that doesn't help I would contact Kershaws excellent Customer Service for a replacement. They will straighten it right out I am sure.

My Groove was harder to open than I wanted at first. After around a hundred openings, I took a Torx screwdriver and loosened the pivot screw around thirty degrees. It's now perfect. A very slight flick opens it each time.

I meant some sort of attachment on a drill because I dont have a dremmel. I might just mess with it for a while and see what happens.

TV treatment sounds good for right now--or a nice long movie; just make sure to not cut yourself ;)

Good luck.

For those out-of-round sections:

You might try one of the tapered diamond sharpeners (such as DMT "Diafold Serrated Sharpener Fine Grit," but there are others). It should cut faster than sandpaper, but not build up the heat of a power tool.

Thanks. I didnt think about something like that, Ill have to see if I can find one locally.

Ok , i looked at the pics and heres my take on it.

Aside from the obvious out of round,If you look at the 2nd pic you can clearly see that there are burrs/roughness on the inside if that hole and between the two...theres the rub, so to speak.
You could take a round file or even a 1/2 round file and go at it till you have all or most of that out....but be careful, kershaw knives work on decently close tolerances, proper alignment and adjustment to work properly and smoothly. If you enlarge the hole too much, youre going to end up with a blade that will slop around on the pivot and no amount of tightening will solve it. It will also probably wear the heck outta the pivot too.

You could also, as some have stated, loosen the pivot, but then, especially with the long flipper on these, you could be setting yourself up for it to be open in your pocket and getting cut but good. Also, loosening the pivot removes the build up of pressure on these if loosened too much. If you do this always be sure it's blade is up against the side of your pocket to keep it closed. And always look before reaching in your pocket.

If it were me, i'd contact Thomas W. here and let him see the pic's....before i did anything.Customer service being excellent, i'm sure he'd either be able to tell you exactly what to do, or replace the blade for you.

Just my 2 cents.

Just my 2 cents.

Its not actually a burr but a gouge, that shouldnt affect anything. Ive loosened the pivot about as far as it will go without touching the frame.

I dont see any point in buggin Thomas about it, its not a big deal. With enough time it will probably break itself it, and it flips find with a little flick of the wrist.

Thanks for all the suggestions though.

I know, I appreciate all the suggestions. It's gettin better with use, about ever other time I can get it completely open without using my wrist at all.

Just an update. The groove has broken in quite nicely, it flips fast and buttery smooth. Everyone who doesnt yet have a groove should go get one now!
