Finally got a "Spitfire".

A win on Buck's part IMHO, a nicely made, reasonably priced, USA production knife available to the masses. I'm sorta reconsidering the Vantage's longterm viability with knives like this one, that probably have more appeal, due to the colors. I mean aesthetics sell. Not that it's inferior or anything. Buck's presence in the mainstream is great once again. The local Wally Worlds, and other big box stores are full of USA Bucks, something I'd have never believed several years ago, aside from the 110, and 119.

Anyone know what size Torx that pivot takes?

Mine just arrived and has a lot of play side to side and up and down but it appears (and maybe this is just the way they're meant to be...I don't know) not to have any washers on either side of the pivot and can push the pivot bolt to one side and then the other (back and forth from side to side in the knife). Its that play from side to side (actual sliding) that makes me wonder if this was suppose to have washers but they're missing.

Its shame, I was pretty excited about this inexpensive Buck but mine is really disappointing.

Obviously you can only expect so much for a $30 knife but I have tool marks running down one side of the blade, the bottom of the scales are sharp where they cut the grooves and the blade looks like it was sharpened by me (and I don't mean that as a compliment).

Pictures?

A few tool marks on an expensive folder is something that is easily overlooked as long as the pivot doesn't slide back and forth when pushed on and if you don't have all the blade play.

I was thinking that maybe this is simply missing the washers and thereby allowing the pivot way too much play. The bottom of the scales is sharp BUT that could be smoothed out with a diamond rod if the blade play was taken care of.

If I can find a wrench to fit the pivot I'll be able to see if there are any washers or not...I'm sure that most of these are perfectly fine...stuff happens.

I tried to take a few pics of the tool marks and grind but the flash is making it hard to pick it up cleanly...you can still see some of it even with the poor pics (my bad).

Any news on this "721 Slimline"? I got a chance to handle a Spitfire in my local store, but it only came in a combo edge and I prefer straight edges so I held off on buying one. I do like the aesthetics of the 721 profile much more than the 722 profile, so now I'm holding off buying a Spitfire online until I can find out more about this 721 Slimline model...

edit: oops. I missed the spitfire question thread. Looks like the all the hullabaloo over the differences between the 722 Spitfire and 721 Slimline is taking place over there. sorry!
