Finally got a Tempske bowie... and I'm sending it back.

It's in the box, unopened, upstairs in the office. I'm calling to get a return tag for it tomorrow. I just don't need it. I bought it in a moment of knifelust and regretted it almost immediately.

Part of the reason is I'm just decluttering my house and my life. I'm getting rid of stuff I don't use, clothes that don't fit, knives I don't want anymore, any stuff that's just collecting dust.

Nice knife, that's for sure. Problem is, anything I want to do with knives I can do with knives I already own.

ETA

I have not encountered any problems with the quality of the product. I have a Svord peasant folder and couldn't be happier with it. Some day I may buy a Tempsky again, and it would be my first choice if I wanted a large Bowie.

this is more about your life than the bowie.... probably belongs in your diary, not BF

The Von Tempsky is one heck of a knife, and has a lifetime warranty against breakage. If you've got knife regret that's understandable, but I don't think it's the knife's fault as much as where you are in your life right now. As such, I agree with 100eyes above. The title of the thread implies that you're dissatisfied materially with the knife itself, while you really just realized you don't need it right now because of pieces you already own.

Just put it up for sale, right here on the exchange sub-forum..
That's a fine piece of L6 you got there.

I was actually dubious of the bang-for-buck value when I initially placed an order for one for the shop, but was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Very large, and the quality is there. The guard is comfortable, and does not overly interfere with utility because of the blade length. The handle is done with Loveless-type bolts and the mahogany handle has a very pleasing texture reminiscent of well-aged driftwood, if that makes any sense. It's nice dense wood, but has that nice barnboard-like vertical texture. I'd be perfectly happy with one as my main knife in the woods, and I've actually been tempted to keep one for myself--and it's not often I say that.

That's a shame IMO. The Svord fixed blades are killer and realy have their own distinctive "earthy" style that's pretty nifty. However there is a fine line between collecting and hoarding so it may be for the best under your circumstances.

?.. there is a fine line between collecting and hoarding

The fine line being whether or not you can stop. I absolutely can, I just haven't chosen to. The downside is that it eats up a lot of space. The upside is finding knives and enjoying the reaction of, "Cool! ...when the hell did I buy that?!" :)

The box remains unopened. I cannot attest to the quality, it would be weird to say I could. I have no complaints, that's for sure.

Aw--at least do yourself the favor of looking at it. You might find your mind changed, and if not you can at least sleep easier knowing you held it. :D

It should just be wrapped in a bunch of bubble wrap, so it's not like there's any fancy packaging to destroy. ;)

Now that I am north of age 65 this seems to be happening a lot.:D

Dammit all to Hell. I opened the box and damn if I'm sending it back. I'm keeping it.

Knives have a beauty all their own.

The siren call of sharpened steel is hard to ignore.

Enjoy your new knife!

Told ya'! :D It's just one of those knives that are hard to put down. Really feels like an old-world tool, and that's hard to find these days.:thumbup:

That's good to hear. That has to be one of the coolest production bowies out there. I've found that buyer's remorse generally dissapates pretty quickly after you start to use and enjoy whatever it is that you purchased. You should so do a review of the Tempske Bowie. IMO there isn't enough press about Svord.
