Finally got a Tempske bowie... and I'm sending it back.

Tell me about it! Folks in the know tend to call them "New Zealand's best kept secret." I'm rather inclined to agree. Great prices for L6, and made for hard use.

I've been wanting another huge bowie and I really like the looks of the Svord Tempsky except the case colored blade. How hard would it be to remove the case colored finish?

Shouldn't be too tough. Just use a soft cloth, some metal polish, and an hour or two and I imagine you'd take care of it.

I'm curious about the thickness of the blade. I looked at this knife at an online knife dealer and blade thickness was noted as being between 3.5mm to 5.0mm. That seems like a wide range to me if it is so. It true, why would in not be more uniform?

The one I've got in right now is 4mm and it seems to be the same thickness as what I remember with the last one I had in stock. I'll check the next time one comes in, but I doubt there's that much variation.

Thanks for the info 42. Maybe a misprint and they meant 3.5" to 4.0"? But thanks again.

I think there may be slight variations in stock thickness that Svord gets from Sandvik. Also it looks like the mill scale gets ground off before heat treatment so that likely plays a role as well. But I definitely think the range isn't quite that drastic. :p

No problem. There doesn't seem to be a varnish coat on it like they do on their standard stuff so it shouldn't anything but elbow grease to take it off.
